Photoshop CS5, Windows 7 x64
In an 8.8mb PSD with lots of layers and layers groups (nested layers group beyond what CS4 used to allow) I've started to experience weird "noise" being drawn in randomly.
Two times so far:
1) The red glowy text layer (an acual type layer) is somehow generating the odd "markings" you see in the top right.
When I so much as place my cursor in the text, as if to edit it, they go away.
When I move the text, they move. They're the same color as the text, even getting some of the Outer Glow stylizing the layer.
2) See all the "noise" in the red and blue sign image? The blue and red are supposed to be spot colors. It wasn't there before. It's now permanently in the layer's pixels. If I blur it or do anything to do it, the "noise" blurs too. Good thing it's not my only copy of the image of it would be permanently ruined.
How might I avoid further "corruption"?
First off, do you have older versions of your design (master .psd documents)? If so, make sure you have copies squirreled-away safely and you're not going to overwrite them with saves or the results of testing. I'm just worried that somehow you may be accumulating faults in your PSD file and that you might lose the whole thing.
I imagine Adobe would like to see a copy of a PSD file with this kind of problem. If you're willing to post it online, I'll also be happy to open it and see if the same things happen here with the same document.
Display glitches might be a product of a display driver fault. Standard question: What video card do you have and what display driver version (Help - System Info can tell you these things).
Do you see the same thing happen after closing Photoshop and reopening the same document.

Oh yeah, I get real paranoid and start making copies. Been burned too many times. And thanks for suggesting it
I definitely can't release the whole PSD but I may send out part of it, if need be.
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 430
Closing and re-opening both the PSD and Photoshop has no effect.
Your comment about faults accumulating is interesting. I've created a fresh new document with the same canvas size and duplicated all layers to the new doc, a complete transplant. Hopefully, the noise issue will go away now and I can just forget about this. I hate to waste time on these matters when we can all expect them. We work on computers. Computers are complex. There will always be glitches to deal with.

I am a realist, but I still strive to not take any failure for granted. I try to get to the bottom of everything that goes wrong, and surprisingly it's possible to settle things down to where almost nothing breaks.
Keep up the good fight. You may find the root cause one day.
