Acrobat X Pro keeps crashing on start-up

Hi,

New to forums so please excuse any non-adherence to protocol.

Had Acrobat X Pro for about 6 months, over last 3-4 months it's been crashing.

If I try to open a pdf it launches the programme then after a couple of seconds it shows a screen 'Problem Report for Acrobat' saying Acrobat quit unexpectedly. Normally it will launch correctly after a couple trys. But if I click to 'reopen' it doesn't open the file I originally attempted to open.

I've kept all software upto date and last week I verified all fonts using Font Book, can anyone help???

1: Update the product to the latest version.

2: Move the cache.db file from the location Macintosh HD>Library>Applciation support>Adobe >Adobe PCD>Cache and move the cache.db file on to your desktop.

3: Close and reopen the applciation, you will get a prompt to enter the serial key, enter it and check if Acrobat is still crasing or not.

4:Rename the OOBE folder from the location Macintosh HD>Library>Applciation support>Adobe >OOBE and rename it to OOBE.old download and install the Adobe applciation manager from the Adobe website and it will work.

Post on this if you are still facing the same issue.

(Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the 10.7 release you can access the hidden or the root library by  navigating Finder, choose Go > Go To Folder

In the Go To Folder dialog, type ~/Library and click Go.

I attempted the steps in the post above and it did not solve the issue.  Deleteing the Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat folder did until the next day.  It's right back to randomly quiting unexpectedly as Acrobat is launched.

Can you list out the exact steps you do before you see the crash?

Do you have any other Adobe Creative Suite app installed on your machines?

Also, did this problem also occured before you updated you Acrobat to version10.1.3?

Removing the cache.db file to the desktop fixed the problem for the remainder of the day but I'm right back where I started. It sounds exactly the same as John's problem, not every time the programme opens, no continuity of when it happens (i.e. sometimes it's when opening a pdf from file, sometimes from mac mail, other times not at all - no consistency).

I initially had InDesign CS5 on my machine (pre Acrobat X Pro) then upgraded to Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Standard.

I've done the renaming of OOBE and downloaded Adobe App Manager, reinstalled Acrobat, all seemed fine again just for that day.

__ Two days later..

I've just had it happen to me twice within 10mins, the first time was when exporting from InDesign (and automatically launching the pdf in Acrobat, Acrobat at that time was not already open) The second when I double clicked a pdf from Finder.

Getting more and more frustrating!

Every time I double click on a pdf file, Acorbat X (10.1.3) loads and then crashes... I tried various things... hit ok or reopen... the only way i got it to load is by 'not restoring windows"... then open the file in question again..

This won't answer Prince's issue but, it's certainly easier tagging onto an existing string than it is to initiate a new one.

I'm having a simliar issue - since my CS6 upgrade - where, upon using the Command-W shortcut to close an Acrobat Pro document, Acrobat crashes almost every single time.

My gut feeling is that it's not incumbent to "we the users" to jump through cache dumps, reinstalls, pulling items out of obscure folders...etc, just to get a program to operate without crashing.  There seems to be more than a sufficient number of similar issues with this program and, I would hope, we'll be seeing our Application/Update Managers come to life any day now with an update that fixes this.

Same issue here. Crashes every single time the first time opening a PDF, then, on relaunch it works. Extremely annoying. Adobe should be getting innundated with crash reports.

Same issue as well. Upgraded to CS6 (via Creative Cloud) from CS5. Acrobat Viewer (10.1.3) and Distiller both worked fine for a week or so but now on two machines Acrobat Viewer closes after about 10-15sec every time, and Distiller closes immediately after opening every time.

Add me to the list.  I don't use Acrobat Pro often, but haven't had issues with it until today.  I have a CC license on CS6.  10.1.3 opens a PDF for about 10-15 seconds and then goes away...no error message or warning.  This happens on every PDF I go to open.  I have restarted the computer and I have checked for updates.

Please fix the problem Adobe.  1 is user error, 2 is coincidence, 3 is a problem...

I talked with adobe support to fix the acrobat issue.  They manually removed all instances of acrobat and reader files, as well as in registry hkey>users>software>adobe>

If Acrobat X pro is a part of the CS 6 suite then by following the steps will resolve the issue. (Both Windows and Mac OS X)

1: Launch Photoshop or any other product of the suite.

2: Later click on Help>Deactivate button and deactivate the product.
3: Close and relaunch Photoshop or the deactivated product and you will get the activation window once again.

4: Click on "License the software" option> "Sign in" and activate the product.

5: Now the product is re activated and now launch Acrobat and it will be launched.

This might be caused when the cache.db which is a database file gets corrupted.

Even after performing the above mentioned steps if the issue still persists then please post the exact error message if you are getting any or any further information.

Following venkk's suggestion did not resolve the issue as he states, it disabled my 5.5 suite.

Here is some more information.

On W7 pro 64-bit, brand new computer with latest Reader installed, no other Adobe products, performed a new install of Design Premium Suite CS6.

After some days suddenly Acrobat simply wouldn't open - could 2click it, click a pdf, whatever, no joy. With substantial help from Adobe (and the email with survey had a broken link so I couldn't say how helpful he was) did a massive de-install of Acrobat:

  - make Admin account visible, reboot

  - log in as Administrator, run AdobeArCleaner.exe, with only Acrobat checked

  - remove Reader using normal Windows uninstall

  - delete the empty Acrobat folder in Program Files (x86)

  - reboot

  - run Setup.exe for CS6 suite, checking only Acrobat

  - reboot, log in as admin, verify Acrobat works

  - reboot again, log in as me (with admin privileges), verify acrobat works

  - de-activate Administrator account

  - reboot.

Whew. What a burden! How time-consuming! But it worked - for a while. Then the problem recurred. So I installed Reader and I'll wait for some kind of a Real, Real, Honest, BUGFIX!
