Batch conversion of previously downloaded

What is the best way to change NEF to DNG for large batches of photos, previously downloaded? I have Bridge and Lightroom. Ideally, in the same folder, and eliminating the old NEF files at the same time. (I have a backup in case they don't translate properly.) Downloader does it for me automatically now, but I have thousands of old photos to convert.
