Trevor, It seems AME has a limitation that QuickTime presets only offer mono or stereo channel options. Other formats do provide for multichannel audio, like P2 movie and MXF OP1a, I tried creating presets from both with some of my own P2 DVCProHD clips while researching this for you.
Be sure to report bugs here: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish This will get your comments to the right people. Adobe Media Encoder isn't listed so choose either Adobe Premiere Pro or Production Premium.
Thanks.
Hi bbb_999
Been away all day but had to give this a try.
Staying in DVCPHD this works.I can make 4 channals but not if I try to transcode the P2/DVCPHD to Pro Res only to channels.
So I guess you can't transcode P2 / DVCPHD to any other file type and keep 4 channels and keep all the channels. No matter what programe you trancode in. Ok if you do them sepratrely.
Thanks for making look a bit futher Prelude work great I might just be trying the imposable.
Thank you for replying.
Trevor
Cinerazz,
Prelude does not support CinemaDNG. However there is a beta plug-in on labs.adobe.com for Premiere Pro CS5.5. I tried this plug-in in both Premiere Pro CS6 and Prelude CS6 using sample files downloaded from the labs page and had some success. In Prelude the MXF wrapped CinemaDNG file worked better, the DNG image sequence came in as 1fps and Prelude does not have an interpret footage command like Premiere Pro has. You're welcome to give the plug-in from the labs site a try, just keep in mind it is unsupported. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. I put in a feature request to make the Lightroom 4 DNG raw processing tools available in some form for cinema DNG support in CS6. Either by providing video transcoding options in lightroom or by adding access to the raw processor tools in Prelude, PPro or AE.
Right now DaVinci Resolve seems to be the only video post processor with decent native support for cinema DNG. They are a bit ahead of the curve it seems.
Transcoding to Cineform raw and using the Cineform plugin may be a workable option too.
2k DNG raw is going to be a pretty popular acquisition medium for digital cinema within a year or so.
Regarding the Help section: Ingest Movie Clips, step #4 (partial ingest). It says: "When using this feature, ensure that you enable the Transcode option. Transcoding is required for partial ingest."
On the other hand, in the video "Introduction to Prelude CS6," Jason Levine says that if you choose to transfer a clip with In and Out points set in the Ingest dialog box, it uses "references." Meaning, presumably, that the entire file is transferred but will show up as a subclip (or the equivalent) in the Project panel.
I'm guessing Jason misspoke. Nevertheless, confusion arises because you can set In and Out points in the Ingest dialog box, leave the Transcode check box unchecked, and then choose Ingest. No message will alert you that your In and Out points will be ignored and the entire clip will be transferred to the new folder location.
Correct?
Jeff
When my files are moved or renamed, I get the error saying they're offline. However I do not get the icon that I can right click as specified in the directions above. Maybe because this is just a trial version?
Also, it appears that I will never be able to rename a file if I want to keep the Prelude information, not even if I change the file name in Finder and in Prelude to match. I'm guessing it has something to do with the .xml that's created.
What's wrong?
i understand prelude does not support audio-only files, can somebody please point me in the right direction with a programme/software that does?
I am putting a short film together and the majority of sound I will be using I recorded on an external sound recorder. i have a lot of clips that need logging and organising, what is the best way of doing this given that they are all audio-only files?
many thanks
Hi there,
I am just staring out in Prelude.
I have 90 hours of footage to scan through and log and so want to make sure that I get the right settings and preferences in place before I begin.
HDV originals have been captured and preserved in native format.
Codec: MPEG-2 Video
Dimensions: 1440 x 1080 (1.3333)
Audio: 4800hz Stereo
When I do a partial ingest, which Transcode option should I use?
I will be editing the programme in Premier Pro
The programme will be for You Tube and a company website.
Many thanks
