Nikon AW100 JPEG file conversion

Acrobat X does not convert my JPEG pictures from my Nikon AW100. this is a 16M pic camera. I try to reduce the size of the pic and it still will not convert.

It just runs and then gives the following error;
"Adobe Acrobat has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

My old camera still works in the conversion.

Do you have any answers to why the JPEG from Nikon AW100 will not convert?

I can send a file to someone if they want to try it.

We don't allow regular users to attach files, but if you could post a photo of something innocuous to a download site that doesn't resample the image (dropbox, yousendit, etc) we can try it out with various combinations of software and OS, and see if that camera has anything strange in the headers.

Can you also confirm the exact version of Acrobat you're using (on Help > About) and your OS version.

You might also try emptying the TEMP folder. You may be running out of temp memory that Acrobat uses in creating PDFs.

I am having the exact same problem.  Have you been able to determine why this is happening?

I have two other point and shoot cameras and a Nikon D80 and I am able to combine photo's using Adobe Acrobat X Pro without it crashing.

Can you post a sample file somewhere for us to take a look?

I've tried sample AW100 photos from Nikon's website using Acrobat X Pro 10.1.3 (Windows) and they convert to PDF without errors (both as standalone images and using the Combine Supported Files route in Windows Explorer).

Without seeing an example of an image that fails to convert, this doesn't appear to be a bug with Acrobat and is more likely to be corruption of the JPEG files, either in-camera or when copied from the memory card.

Thanks. I could reproduce the crash. I've passed the files on to the engineer to take a look.

I was wondering if you have heard back from your engineers.  Please advise.

    Thanks

Not yet. He's out of office, but I've made sure this is in his list of things to do when he's back.

btw, One quick workaround is to open the file in Microsoft Paint and save it as .PNG. Opening the PNG in Acrobat works.

The issue is due to a failure to parse the somewhat-strange GPS fields your camera is embedding in the EXIF metadata.

If you remove the GPS tags (e.g. via save-for-web in Photoshop or by using ExifTool to strip the metadata without altering the image itself) the files convert in Acrobat perfectly.

It sounds like the easiest work around is to return the camera and find one that does not have this issue.

    Thanks for your assistance.

    Hello Abhigyan,

We are facing a similar issue with one of our managers Acrobat Installation, where the GPS Tags are creating a problem and  acrobat freezes.

I just checked the images posted by somebody on top into dropbox. But the images we have are from Iphone and they are GPS co-ordinates.

Can we have an update on this issue.

I dpwnloaded you samples opened the zip file created then Dragged and Dropped the pictures in question on Acrobat 11.0.2 Mac version and they converted with no problem in seconds.  I've saved them  in the same Folder.

Here is the folder on the return trip and the PDF's included:

If you are able to combine these pics to a pdf file let me know.

Dont forget to download the whole folder as a ZIP folder so you can get all the properties of the images.

    Here they are: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/464srw26xj9jlhk/XM7UxbLSkH

I use Mac version of XI.0.2

I don't know what version of Windows. But in Mac, applications generate a symbolic Link in the Dock (similar to Start menu in older versions of Windows Or maybe the Icon(link) on the desktop.

anyway I dropped each file on the Acrobat Application. I had no issue with the GPS info messing with the PDF conversion.  And I found out if you drop a Group of files on it, it offers to place all in one PDF or not.

Oh you can do the same thing in Acrobat X as well.

RDS241079 - my observations are same as Philip's. I can open your files (as well as the files posted earlier in the forum) just fine in the latest released version of Acrobat (11.0.2). Please make sure you have all the latest updates to the product (help->check for updates).

Acrobat X Pro is now at 10.1.6 and your files convert OK in that version.

If you have configured Acrobat not to allow automatic updates, you can get the patches from the website and install them manually.

    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

I downloaded all the updates manually and set the updater to update as well. However since he has the Greek, Arabic and Hebrew version i was able to install upto update 10.1.1 only.

It still didnt work. Is there a way i can collect some logs and Adobe can analyze.

You can download the 10.1.5 patch from our partner website:

    http://www.winsoft-international.com/en/downloads/updates/?marque_id=1 02&produit_id=472&plateforme_id=1&langue_produit_id2=4

That should resovle the issue. These should appear in Adobe's support pages in a few days as well.
