Google sites vs Business Catalyst

Hi All

Was wondering if anyone has any experience of google sites? Have been toying with the idea of hosting individual project sites for clients on our own domain or a subdomain but a colleague suggested looking into google sites.  Having had a look it doesnt look amazing. Is there anything it offers that couldnt be built onto bc? Thanks.

Matt

Last time I played with it (and this was sometime last year) Google Sites was far, far more limiting than is Business Catalyst in terms of being able to customize things.

    Terrible!

It is for you to have something, just information out there. Got certain features but the use for a business if it wants to be professional is something to stay away from, even google advises you don't use it for much of anything.

One worry i'd have about using google sites would be security, if these project sites aren't necessarily meant to be public. Although that argument assumes Business Catalyst is secure. I don't know.

But, between the two, google locks you entirely into their format and at least sites built in BC have some (semblance) of freedom in terms of what users can create. Web apps are a bit tricky in terms of portability but that basic functionality could still be replicated elsewhere.

Unless you use Google App Engine and develop your own app in Python or Java, Google Sites will not provide you with nowhere near the amount of functionality BC does.

Like Mario said, it is a no brained.

Clients site is gone from google sites now but they had something along the lines of this:

    http://www.prakritiartandcrafts.com/

And I did this for them in BC:

    http://www.gettalking.co.nz/

Like I said, no brainer. BC by a mile :)
