Log-in from DW CS6. Why so hokey? Why so slow?

May 30, 2012 10:37 AM

Having to log in to BC every time I open DW to work on a BC site is bad enough (really, someone should fix that -- it's a terrible user experience, especially considering how easy it is to avoid), but the lags are just horrible. There's a long pause before the (wrongly-named, because it is not the Creative Cloud login) dialog opens, which is bad, but the delay after submitting the uid and pw is mind-boggling: more than 30 seconds, and I'm in the US on the NA data center.

The Creative Cloud login dialog goes to a secondary message box with an animated "working" bar, which then passes the baton to the BC panel and yet another animated bar. I can hit Enter, go get a cup of coffee and be back at my desk before the login process is done. (I tested it.)

Can we get a bigger pipe between BC servers and the main Adobe servers? Or something? This is really unprofessional, especially with the three different progress bars. The entire point of the Creative Suite is speed of workflow. This is anti-CS.

From a user perspective, it's misleading to label the pop-up dialog "Creative Cloud". It's the BC login, not the CC login. A non-CC Adobe UID works just fine, but you'd never know that from the dialog box. I found out because I took a wild guess, having not found any alternative way to log in, that it must be mislabeled.

Forcing new logins, mislabeled dialogs, multiple "progress" windows and incredibly long delays all add up to a very poor UX that repeats every time I fire up DW CS6 to work on a BC site. Repetition does not improve the experience. Whatever coordination work needs to occur among the DW, BC and Adobe IT infrastructure folks to improve things would be well worth the effort.

    Hi Alan,

I am having problems also.  I think strange things are afoot.

Using 5.5, despite the fact it has been an installed and working extension for over a year, the BC extension, when called has not even the login popout.  It seems to want me to download the BC extension, which I have had, as I said, for over a year.  Making matters worse, I keep getting an error message when the extensions manager itself goes into updating.  Fails every time.   When I go to the log, it gives me the error message of : [skip most of this when reading]

Like I said, strange things afoot.

Now, on the matter of version 6.  When I go to login there, the login comes up, but once the username and password are entered I get this animated progress indicator popup that runs and runs, and runs, and runs (the server, I assume).  How about a pot of coffee?  I left it the other day for hours, when I came back, it was still running, and I was not connected to the server.  The long and short of it is that I am having to do everything through the online admin portal, . . . a hassle, to say the least.  Geared for in-context editing by those with no programming language necessary is, by nature oriented toward content, rather than server-side functionality. . . . Arguable, I suppose, because there are certainly modules/etc. which are dynamic, . . . still having problems, though.  The server seems to almost randomly find, or not find my pages.  Haven't see it much lately, but I don't think it handles  html versus htm (the file extensions).

    Alan:  I sympathize and commisurate

I was having a problems logging in to the BC Panel in DW CS6. I am on a Windows 7 machine and also have a Create Cloud account. When I tried to import a BC site, I could not  login to the Creative Cloud box. After entering my credentials It would try for about 20 seconds and then return to the Log in box. After much testing, I found that I had to run DW CS6 as an administrator and everything worked flawlessly after that.

Consequently, I Now right click my shortcut icon and run as administrator. It works flawlessly. I don't know if your problem stems from this, but it's worth a try.
