Compress large PDF files

Hi All,

We have a program which generates pdf documents and then emails them. Some of these pdf files are very large in size (example 20MB) so email procedure fails to send them as attachment.

Currently we have a user who goes in and opens the pdf in pdf write and selects menu option Document --> "Reduce file size" to compress the pdf file. Then user has to manually send the email out.

We want to remove this manual intervention and should be able to reduce the file through the program only.

Is there a API/Tool/Utility that we can call from our program to reduce the file size of large files and then email them?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Saket

Provided that you are doing this automation on a desktop instead of a server, then you can use the Acrobat SDK to do this by writing a custom plugin to Acrobat (in C/C++).
