Elements 9 can't save edited image

When I try to do a save of an edited image on Vista in Photoshop Elements 9 I get the following popup: Could not complete your request because of a program error.  I have also noticed it will not create a panoramic composite image.  It only generates a single layer empty transparent page

    Have you installed the latest update available for PSE9?  It's version 9.0.3.

    It occurred to me to uninstall and reinstall the software.  It didn't help, I bet it would on a Unix/Linus system.

    How much RAM is installed?

     

    How much free space is on your system (C:)drive?

     

    Where is the edited photo stored -- internal drive, external drive, network drive?

    I found that if I login as a diffrerent user I can save edits.  So, I assume it is some Program Data saved under my user name somewhere that is corrupted.

    Storing JPEGs on External drive:

    2GB RAM

     

    I have found that if I open an image from the C drive I can edit it and save it on both drives.

    If I open an image from the F drive I can't save it on either drives.

    If I copy that same image to the C drive I can edit it and save it to the F drive.

    I have no idea what the problem is but I have copied the files to a new directory, in the F drive, and I have just edited and saved one of the files.

     

    So it would seem that I have found a work around.

    Yes, it might be a good idea to run chkdsk against that F: drive....  There are probably some bad sectors or blocks on it.

    I ran chkdsk and found no problems.  I still can't save changes in that directory using Elements but I can using Gimp.
