I have a question and would love some clarification:
In the recent blog post section on "What's Next" contained some mockups and information on handling metadata. Part of that information said the following:
Search results will replace existing "Exclude from Search results" option. If enabled, it wil place <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> inside the page.
- if existing content="nofollow" exists, it will be preserved
- if content="noindex" exists, the selected choice will be "Show", otherwise "Hide"
When a page is saved, if it contains the above meta, the following actions will also be performed:
- exclude page from BC's site search
- exclude page from sitemap.xml
My question is this:
If I have a page that has:
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">
and I upload that page from Dreamweaver (The page will not be created in BC but in DW). Will it automatically remove the page from the site search and sitemap.xml or must I still log into admin and hit save?
Thank You Very Much! =>
Hi Lynda,
It will automatically remove the page from the site search and sitemap.xml. We are actually investing some effort in making this happen automatically if we detect robots noindex in the saved page, in order to save you time.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions.

That is great news and it will help save time.
One thing that did cross my mind is this: I have a template that has the meta =noindex, nofollow and majority of the pages that I use that meta on are assigned to that template. Will the system read that the template has the meta and thus the page as well and work? If not it is not a big deal to add the meta to the pages themselves.
Just a thought,
Thanks again and I cannot wait!
Hi Lynda,
Good point with the template. Unfortunately, we don't support this yet. Please add the robots meta to pages as you mentioned. To make it quicker, you could use the new UI which will be available when this feature is implemented.
Thanks for being ok with the extra work ![]()
