Just had a flash player update, got the same Installer/Uninstaller error. I swear that either you people just don't care enough to find and fix the problem, or your software developers don't have a clue what the problem is and have no idea how to fix it. This has been going on for WAY too long. Maybe Adobe needs to hire new or better software developers.
In addition to that, just yesterday I tried to uninstall & reinstall flash on my wife's computer (flash audio and video are skipping and terribly out of sync on her computer or video hangs while audio stutters (relatively fresh install of Windows XP SP3, all updates, clean), and I couldn't even get flash to reinstall, got some kind of certificate authentication error and had to download the full install to get it back on her computer. So now the site I would normally go to to get flash is fubar'd until Adobe can get their site certificate in order.
What is it with you people? I'm getting really tired of messing with this, as are alot of other people as evidenced by this thread.. -kd5-
Have been looking too if there is any change... On the previous page there is a note saying to follow further here:

But does not look much better as far as I can see...

Do you have a virus scan on them? Try disabling it and then running the install. That's what I've been doing recently and haven't had any issues. I know not a fix to it but at least it resolves the annoyance. Hope it helps.
Sure, I can disable my antivirus but I'd rather not, I'd rather Adobe just resolved the issue with their software. -kd5-
I tried the test build but my client still had the same error.
The only option was to select "Never check for Updates" under Flash Player settings in Control Panel. This removed the FlashUpdateService scheduled task in Windows. Not the best solution but for now it will stop my client from getting the error messages until the problem is fixed because it was popping the crash message all the time.
We released Flash Player 11.3.300.270 today to specifically address the crash in FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe. Please see this announcement post for additional details and links to the installers:
8/2/2012 - Flash Player 11.3 Update
We'd like to thank everyone that helped us troubleshoot and debug this issue. I'm sorry you had to go through this but glad it's now resolved.
Thanks,
Chris
I appreciate that you believe you have resolved this issue. Will it come through the normal update cycle? Or do we have to manually seek out and install it? The reason being: there are probably a great deal of people out there who never even thought to come here to find out what the problem was, let alone what to do about it. It would be nice if everyone, regardless of their technical proficiency (or whether or not they had the wherewithal to find this thread), could get this update through the normal update cycle. -kd5-
I hate to tell you but your problems are NOT resolved. Just got a Flash update this morning on my main computer to 11.3.300.271, as baggage I also received the "Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 11.3.r300 has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Getting kind of tired of this. -kd5-
I had gone back to an older working version when the problem started to be able to keep on working. I had used the Clean Uninstall instructions (Uninstaller for Windows) to remove everything first before installing that older version. When Chris said that the prbl was resolved, I went to the link he provided and downloaded 11.3.300.270 that would be addressing the crash problem. Everything was fine. I have had another update after that and everything is still working fine...
Maybe you should try it that way?
I've done that before, the clean install always went well, it was the updating that has been going badly, but to satisfy curiosity I uninstalled then reinstalled Flash from scratch again. I won't know if it was successful in resolving the problem unitil the next update. I assumed the Adobe software developers had resolved this, as per their claim, had my hopes built upon that claim.
As I said before, getting kind of tired of this. -kd5-
kd5 - We resolved the known crash in the FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe module. However, it sounds like you are running into a different problem.
Reread a number of the posts in the thread, but I'm unclear exactly when Flash Player is crashing. What do you have your update settings set to in your Flash Player control panel (see the advanced tab)?
It's very possible that you have something conflicting with our installer on your system, especially since this appears to affect multiple computers that you own. Are there common utilities, security/anti virus applications installed? This isn't a wide spread issue (I can't think of anyone else running into this right now), so I suspect we're dealing with something specific to your systems.
The ONLY time we see the "Installer/Uninstaller has encountered an error and needs to close" is when Flash needs to update. I have ours set to 'Notify me to install updates' because we like to know what goes on with our computers. We use Avast! Free Antivirus, Windows Defender, SpywareBlaster & SpywareGuard as real-time protection, along with the latest Windows Updates for Windows XP SP3.
I got the same error on my wife's computer yesterday, I've uninstalled Flash and reinstalled it from scratch on both our computers (the clean install always goes swimmingly), we'll just have to wait and see if it resolved the issue until the next update.
One last word: The updating of Flash NEVER presented this error until I started this thread, and we've been using the same security tools on our computers for several years. I conclude then that it is something ADOBE has done to Flash rather than anything we've done to our computers. -kd5-
