I was wondering if anyone is experiencing the same problem as me, and if anyone has found a way to fix it. I originally posted my question in this thread but it appears I'm having a different issue than the OP.
When I first got the CS6 Master Collection, I was running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 on a standard 7200 rpm HDD. All CS6 applications were installed and working properly. A few days ago I bought a new SSD, installed it, and loaded the latest Windows 8 Release Preview (64-bit).
One of the first things I did was install a few CS6 applications. All of them work except for Audition. When I open Audition, I see the screen below. This happens as soon as I launch the program -- I'm never able to fully open it before it crashes.
I submitted a bug report with Adobe but haven't heard anything back yet. I also saved a crash dump file but I'm not sure where I can upload it so that the Adobe team can look at it. Is anyone else having this issue?
Can you send an e-mail to audbugs@adobe.com and I'll setup a private FTP site where you can upload the crash dump. Let me verify that this was a clean install of Windows 8 and not an upgrade to the new drive from your older Windows7 installation as well.
Thanks!
Hi and thanks for your quick reply! Yes it was a clean install of Windows 8 on a brand new SSD. Definitely not an upgrade. Audition CS6 does not work on that installation.
I still have the Windows 7 installation on the old drive, and all my CS6 (and CS5) applications still work on that drive.
I just sent an email to the address you provided. Thanks!
on an interesting note. I am attempting to run Audition on a W530 running the RTM of windows 8. The Thinkpad W530 has nVidia Optimus graphics. If I just run adobe audition normally, it crashes. If I right click the audition shortcut, and tell it to run with the nVidia Quadro(High Performance) Option, it starts up fine.
ahhh, looks like you don't have optimus, I could be wrong on that, but that would explain the lack of "Run with graphics processor" in the context menu. Try installing the drivers at this link
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-306.02- beta-driver.html
and see if that helps. if not, and it turns out you do have optimus(which you can check by going to device manager and opening the sub category "Display adapters", if you have 2 items, and one of them says "Intel" then you have optimus. in which case, post which intel card you have, so I can point you to those drivers, but either way, you end up installing the link above).
I hope that that is intelligible enough....
We've been looking into this since the initial report, and unfortunately haven't been able to reproduce it on any of our hardware yet. We did get a crash dump from T3DV0L70L1N4 but now are looking at an issue where 64-bit Win8 writes 64-bit crash dumps for a 32-bit application which no debugger likes. I need to get back in touch after I figure out how to get a 32-bit dump, which I should be able to do next week.
All the evidence so far, however, does point to a conflict between the graphics device driver and on of the Adobe UI libraries. However Audition shares these with Premiere, After Effects, Encore, etc, so I'd have expected a similar issue with those apps. Since Audition was the only one crashing, the problem may very well be something else.
In any case, I haven't forgotten about and am not ignoring this problem. We'll get to the bottom of it.
Audition CS6 works flawlessly for me now, so far. A few days ago I got a Windows Update for for my Intel Graphics Adapter. Even though I have an Nvidia graphics card, my Dell still needs Intel graphics drivers for some reason (I'm not sure why). The update details are below. Ever since I installed that update, Audition seems to work fine. If anything changes, I will post again. If you need me to run any other diagnostics, let me know.

Regarding getting a 32-bit crash dump:
I recommend ProcDump for getting a 32-bit crash dump on a 64-bit OS. You can also use task manager that is buried in the WOW64 (or something similarly named) folder as that is the actual 32-bit version.
There's also some details on using ProcDump in this old FAQ post I put up:
Did you have the Premiere and Photoshop bugs before or after the update? I didn't install Premiere, but I didn't notice any issues with Photoshop before the update. Haven't opened it since the update. Just to be safe, I set all my Adobe applications to always use my Nvidia high performance settings, instead of the power-saver onboard settings.
What type of computer do you have? I have a Dell XPS 17 L702X, and the USB 3.0 ports seem to be working fine with Windows 8, without having to install any other drivers. I don't have any USB 3 devices, but they work fine with my USB 2 devices. When I first installed Windows 7, USB 3 wasn't natively supported so I needed to hunt down drivers to make them work. They worked immediately with Windows 8.
