Dear all,
I have recently been experiencing this problem where I can't use the printscreen button and paste into MS Paint.
For your info, the document I am viewing is not protected/encrypted in any way. I used to be able to printscreen and paste recently I have not been able to.
I am using Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Extended
I've read online that this is possible due to a recent Adobe Update. Does anyone know where I can re-enable printscreen for normal documents? I use the printscreen alot and it just does not make any logical sense to disable this function.
Appreciate your kind responses.
Regards
Leong
Hi Leong,
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with Print Screen. Although I am not why this is happening but I can assure you for one thing - No Adobe updates disables any of such features. There must be something else causing this.
If you have Windows 7 try using the snipping tool and check if that is working fine for you.
Can you take print screen of your desktop or any other explorer window?
Also, just go through this forum and check if any of the steps mentioned there works for you.
Feel free to let us know the results.
Regards,
Sandeep V.
I am running Adobe Acrobat Extended 9.0.0. This problem only happens with Acrobat Extended 9.0.0
Are you not even able to use Print Screen when you double click on Acrobat Icon from your desktop (without opening a PDF)?
Yes that is correct. Even a blank Acrobat Extended 9.0.0 window prevents me from using the Printscreen button.
I also have Adobe Reader X but there are no problems whatsoever with Reader.
Hmmm... Try this:
Right click on Acrobat Icon->Properties->Compatibility and attach the snapshot of the properties window.
Have you tried updating Acrobat to the latest version? You can update it from Help Menu->Check for updates.
Could you try snipping tool? Does that work? Its a small application on Windows 7.
I have the exact same problem: I can print screen with M/S Word, M/S Paint, M/S Outlook, Internet Explorer… as long as Adobe Acrobat is not open. As soon as Acrobat is opened, even without a pdf document open, print screen is disabled. As soon as Acrobat is closed, the print screen functionality is restored. I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro version 9.4.7 on Windows XP Professional 4.2.5 Service Pack 3 on a Toshiba Tecra PA3860U.
I'm not able to replicate this issue w/ Acrobat 9 Pro Extended (9.5.1) on an Windows XP SP3 box.
I'm curious though if, after you hit the Print Screen button, within Acrobat, does the File > Create PDF > From Clipboard option work?
I'm not sure what the issue is exactly, but this test might indicate whether or not the problem is w/ pasting (the clipboard is busted) or with the actual Print Screen command.

I have exact same problem. Print screen works fine until Acrobat Reader 9.4 or Acrobat Pro 9.4 are opened. Then print screen does not work - regardless of whether there is a document loaded in adobe or what I am trying to screen grab, could be a webpage or a word document or a anything. Using Win XP SP3. Close Acrobat and all is OK again.
I do not get this with other Adobe products such as Dreamweaver, Fireworks or Photoshop.
Note copy and paste (text) still works while Acrobat is open.
Here's a thought: try this.
Make sure Acrobat is closed.
Hold down Shift key.
Double click Acrobat icon to start it.
Acrobat should start, but with no plug-ins at all, not even those from Adobe (it will look rather bare of buttons and menus).
Ok... is the print screen function locked now?
Ok, very interesting. To be honest I wasn't suggesting it to fix it, because without the plug-ins so many bits of Reader or Acrobat are missing that most people can't work. But if you can, that's great.
What you've proved is that one of your plug-ins is doing this. Unfortunately there are a whole bunch of standard plug-ins which come with Acrobat and Reader, and others which could be added on.
If you feel like going further, please try this. Start Reader or Acrobat WITHOUT the shift, so that Print Screen isn't working. Now, do you see an entry under the Help menu "about third party plug-ins"? If so, please let us know all of the entries you see when you select that.
