Lightroom install error.

I have just bought Lightroom 4 on CD and also downloaded it from Adobe. In both cases when I try to install the software on my imac I get the same error message.  (com.apple.installer.page controller error -1.) I have no idea what this means. I am assuming it is a problem with the mac but cannot get any help from apple (as usual). Can anyone here help?

    What version of OSX are you running?

     

    LR 4 requires Snow Leopard or later. 64-bit.

    Thanks for the replies. My imac is older (about 5 years old) but I recently updated it with Snow Leopard, and then reinstalled Snow Leopard when I started having these problems (The computer refuses to recognise my Canon D5 III via EOS Utlities). I tried Geoff The Kiwi's suggestion of downloading the free trial from the Adobe website and then adding my serial number, but the same thing happens. It lets me download, but comes up with the same error message and does nothing.

     

    I don't know how to check for compatibility issues, but accept that it may be the problem.

    I notice in the other thread, that you're using 10.6. Is that 10.6.8? If so, you still need to be running on a 64-bit machine. Is that the case? What CPU are you using?

    I checked the 'About this Mac' and it says I am running OS X 10.6.3 and the processor is 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I don't know how to determine if it is 64 bit.

    I just found a website that tells me my Intel Core 2 Duo is 64 bit.

    Then you're going to have to install 10.6.8.

    I just spent a hour waiting for 10.6.8 to download but it says I cannot install it on my disk.

     

    I miss film!

    I can't help you on that one. I'm a Windows guy. You will, however, have to install that OS (or a later one) before you can install LR 4.x. Maybe Apple can help.

    Thanks for all the help Hal. I was suspecting that the computer was not up to date enough. Now I am sure, I will investigate further with Apple.

    Finally got some help from Apple and updated the Snow Leopard to 10.6.8. Lightroom loaded straight up and now I can start the learning process. My initial reaction is that this is everything I always wanted all the other photo editing programmes to do. So I am pretty excited right now. It only took 2 days.
