Illustrator crashes when trying to export to png

My issue is pretty straightforward, I cannot export to PNG unless I trash the Illustrator preferences (located in: user/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings/en_US/) BEFORE I start Illustrator. As soon as I close Illustrator, I must delete those preferences again the next time I start up the program or I won't be able to export a file.

 

- I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, but I was having the same issues in Lion

- I have uninstalled the whole CS6 Creative Suite and reinstalled (literally deleting every single Adobe file in the Library folder) still the same issue

- It seems to only be PNG files that I can't export to. If I try and make it a JPG it will export (I do commonly need to export with transparency so JPGs won't work for many things I need to export)

 

I can't think of anything else to do. Thoughts?

    Check the permissions on the Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings folder as well as the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS6/en_US. Make sure that you have Read/Write for all the items within those folders.

    I checked and everything does have both Read & Write permissions. That's a really good idea and thing to check though. Thank you.

    Also does it do the same if you use Save For Web&Devices?

    So you did that manually?

     

    Did you simply run the unistaller? There are files you may have missed manually.

    Ahh, let me further clarify. I do not need to trash all of the files inside of the folder "Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS6/en_US" the only file that I need to delete is the "Adobe Illustrator CS6 Preferences" file. I don't need to delete anything else. I do this manually.

     

    What I tried to reinstall what I did was, I ran all of the uninstallers but then I manually went and deleted every Adobe file from my computer. Everything from the Library, preferences, caches, Application Support, etc. Then I reinstalled everything, Flash, Air, and all of the Adobe Creative Suite Programs, from the Creative Cloud Application installer. That was what I did to hopefully fix the issue.

    If you boot to Safe Mode (hold down the Shift key while booting the machine), can you export then?

    While you are in the scathing mood, you may try using the Cleaner Tool between uninstalling and reinstalling.

    That should be the safe and simple way.

     

    I wonder whether this could be one of the cases of disturbance from other applications. If so, (some of) the usual suspects are:

     

    Quicktime/iTunes,

    Quicken (Widget),

    Entourage,

    Google Earth,

    Zune,

    Some Firefox Add-ons,

    Spotlight (shortcuts),

    Fetch,

    Hulu,

    Cocktail,

    Cinch,

    RightZoom,

    Synergy,

    FontExplorer.

    I've been having this exact same problem with CS5 on Mountain Lion. Anything that rasterizes the artwork causes it to hang. Export (PNG), Save for Web, Filters like Drop Shadow or Gaussian Blur (even when just checking the preview box).

     

    If I delete the preferences it works fine for one run of the app, then it happens again.

     

    Temporary Fix (kinda lame)

     

    1. Edit the contents of the Preferences File in a text editor and remove everything (0 bytes, blank file).

    2. Open the Info box and lock the file.

    Your preferences will stop saving, and the issue will go away, but now non of your preferences will save, you'll be reset every time you open the app.

     

    I will continue to diagnose and see if I can narrow down the area of the config that is breaking things.

     

    I would love a solution for this.

    I would also suggest testing to see if the behavior occurs when logged in as a different newly created user with administrative rights. Issue could be related to permissions beyond just the preferences file.
