Did you use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to select the text box?

Its next to the Selection Tool (V).

No, with the Text Tool, or double click with arrow to get inside the box.

BTW, I reinstalled Encore with the same result. Next step is reinstall of entire suite, but I'd like to avoid that if possible...

Another piece of info: subtitle uses the same interface, and it does work. I can even edit text there and paste into menu text! But why doesn't the menu editor let me do it?

I select the text box with the Direct Selection Tool, double click (which actually gives the Texttool) this will give you the all the text.

Click again and it deselects. Now select the letter/word(s) you want to edit.

Yes, I get that far, and next you do is to click on one of the attributes on Character panel to change the appearance of selected text. As soon as I do that entire box gets selected, and attribute you select, say bold, is applied to the entire text, not the selected. This happens even if I hold my breath tight.

I zapped the Encore preference files, again with the same result.

I really don't remember if this was the case from the beginning (I installed CS5.5 in November last year) or it started doing this sometime after installation...

Now i see what you mean.

I tried it in CS5.5 and CS6 and yes a soon as you want to change one character to say bold the whole text box jumps to bold.

I think in this Photoshop is the easiest way to solve this.

Or set the character or word in a seperate text box.

I'm happy(?) that you see the same problem - I thought it could be just my system.

So, if it happens to everyone with CS5.5/6, and it works fine in CS3 (I don't have CS4/5), is this a new feature/improvement? (I just filed a bug report)

I guess people don't edit the text this way much...

I never noticed it before as i do my text editing also in PS.

I find if you mess too much in Encore (previous versions) the project goes haywire/corrupt.

Now you can breath easy, even if you have to edit in Photoshop!
