How consolidate existing layers into a new layer at the top of the stack?

Aug 1, 2012 10:11 AM

If I have several layers that contribute to the current view of an image, how can I create a new layer at the top of the stack that consolidates all of the layers that contribute to the view without destroying any of the existing layers? Thanks.

You can select all of the layers, right click on them, and press merge layers.

    Shift+Crtl+Alt+E or (mac) Shift+Cmd+Option+E

Merge Visible (stamp visible) to a new layer at the top of the layer stack if the top most layer is active (targeted) and visible

<Shift-Ctrl-Alt + E> will merge all visible layers and place the new layer on top of the stack.  The other method does not preserve the original stack.

It is accessable through the menu (at least on a mac) by holding Option down when you click the "Layer > Merge Visible" menu item. You can try pressing down Alt and see if that works.

Yes, hold the <Alt> key, click on Layer and go down to Merge Visible.  Click on it and only now release the <Alt> key.
