I am in the process of bullding a new Win64 box for Lr4.1 and working with Nikon D800/E 14bit NEFS.
I am thinking about running an Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770K with 32GB ram, Windows 7 64, A couple of sata III 128 GB drives for OS Programs and the second SSD for LR4 cagesatalog and a 4TB Hitachi drive for images.
I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to spetnd the extra $$ and get the Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge 6 core processor, yes it is older then the Ivy Brige but it has 6 cores vs 4 and 12mb L3 cache as opposed to 8mb. plus LGA2011 motherboards support 64GB of ram...
Will LR4.1 take advantage of 6 cores over the Quad Core or will it not be much faster?
The 3930K will be faster and more expensive.
There is a lot of good hardware information to be found in the Adobe Premiere forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/hardware_forum
Thanks for the link.
I have been reading it carefully though of course they recommend the 3930k chip though this only pertains to premiere still not sure if the 2 extra cores and being able to run 64gb of ram will improve LR4 performance.
The ivy bridge setup with 3770k CPU , mb and 32GB ram is about 600-700$ whereas the 3930k setup with 64 gb ram is over 1300.00$
Almost twice as much, and no idea wether its much faster in regards to develope module and importing and creating 1:1 previews from d800 net files
There is a good discussion of LR performance here:
