Actually, I'm not sure I'm asking in the right place - is "Discussion" the same as "Forum"? It's been awhile since I've posted in the forum and things have changed a lot. I seem to be going around in circles. (You know you're in trouble when you don't even know how to use the help forum :).
My one question became two when I tried to use this forum.
1) How close is the workflow & GUI in PrE 10 to PrE 8? Would a PrE8 manual be much use for PrE10? (Note: The last version I worked with is PrE 2 so I should know the basics. I just have to learn where everything is now).
2) I'd like to read through all the questions in the forum, but all I can see are titles under "Trending Questions". Is that the way it is now? I'd like to expand the question list so I can read the first few sentences - is there a way to do that? I used to learn a lot reading through the forums, but titles alone aren't very helpful.
First, you are in the correct place - Discussions are the Forum. Now, if you are not seeing the threads, themselves, you are likely in the Overview mode. Just click on one of those, and when read, look for the Premiere Elements Discussions, and click on that HyperLink. You should then see all of the PrE Discussion threads.
As for PrE 8 vs PrE 10, they will be fairly close. While there are some changes with PrE 10 (mostly things like more Project Presets, etc.), the general workflow will be almost identical. A few operations might have their "button" in a slightly different location, and with a very few, the syntax might have changed. Still, in general, things will pretty much work the same way. All of the main NLE (Non Linear Editor) concepts will still apply.
Now, Steve Grisetti, our tireless MOD here, has an updated PrE 10 book through Muvipix.com, and it HAS been updated for the newest program, PrE 10, so everything in it will cover what little changes there are.

Also... BRAVO! for asking about how to learn the program before just jumping in !!!
Thanks Bill. I have Steve's PrE 2 book which was excellent. I also learned a LOT from the forum last time. But right now it's a choice between a free PrE8 manual or buying a new one. I'll try the free one first. I installed PrE 10 last week and I'm looking forward to getting back into it.
I would go with the free manual too. If you find something that is not showing up, where that book says it should, you have probably found one of the changes. Just go to Help, and see if you can get more info, or drop by here and post, as someone will be able to point you to where things have gone.
In general terms, I think that the biggest change in PrE came from PrE 3 to PrE 4, where the whole GUI changed, and then PrE 4 to PrE 7 (never was a PrE 5, or 6), when ALL Export to file settings moved to Share Tab. Only a few Export functions, and very specific and limited ones, at that, stayed under the old File>Export menu, and some users are still lost on where they went. They think that Export is just grayed out for some odd reason.
Good luck, and yes, free is good.
