Hello,
The problem is when I transfer my print presets fron CS5.5 to CS6 they transfer over but... when I go to use them they set everything correctly EXCEPT the page size. It defaults to an 8.5x11 sheet. However, when I run the same preset in InDesign CS5.5 it will update the page size correctly. I am printing to a PostScript printer
Here is what I have tried to troubleshoot this issue so far. I list what could be wrong and what I have done about each:
1. the preferences are being corrupted
- uninstalling preferences and reinstalling them. I've followed this posting to do this:
http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-printing-problems-inde sign.html#main_h3
(section: 1. Rename or delete the InDesign Defaults and the InDesign SavedData files.)
2. the PPD files are corrupted
- replace my PPD files from the PPD files I have stored for CS5.5
3. I’ve transferred preferences incorrectly
- I go into InDesign CS5.5>File>Print>Print Presets>Define>[select all presets]>Save>[Save in: Mac HD>Applications>Adobe InDesign CS6>Presets
What would be the next thing to try or am I doing something incorrectly? Thanks in advance for any help!
Thanks, Peter.
The setting are the exact same for my presets so I wouldn't know what to edit/change.
I have determined that the problem lies in what the print dialog box determines is an "auto" page size. In CS5.5 it will recognize the 'auto' height and width to be whatever the document page size is. In CS6 it will sometime default to an 8.5 x 11 page size instead of the actual page size –14 x 20.
That would make sense but I work for a commerical printer and print to a postscript printer. So, the document size truly varies with each job.
I may have to just manually set the page size each time if the 'auto' page size will not detect the actual page size.
It's just so baffling to me that my co-worker has updated to CS6, uses the same printer driver as me, and I've even used all his presets and PPD's and he does not have this page size problem.
Ahhh, fix one problem, find another.
Turns out this was a partial user error. I have found that our older template files (about CS4 and older) reset the page size to 8.5 x 11 when bringing them in to CS6. However, the page still looks like the correct size in the document. So, I neglected to test changing the page size for my test document (User Error)
Thanks Peter for troubleshooting with me!
Looks like we've got some template files to update now ![]()
Acutally, it is helpful for it to auto detect the "page size" because the page size is the size of the document not the size of the paper or plate that it will be printed on.
You can technically go straight to a PDF instead of a .ps file but we've had issues when the file is not flattened as a .ps file before converting it to a PDF.
