Error when auto updater attempts to install update

My wife got an update on her computer, I was able to save the "error report" prior to closing the updater.  Where would you like it sent?  When will Adobe fix this?  Obviously the issue was not addressed with the new Installer/Uninstaller (11.3 r300).       -kd5-

    Because there is no provision to paste text into this forum.  Insert Image, Insert Video, Quote Previous Message, right-click options: Insert Link, Insert Image, Alignment, and Insert Table. 

     

    Why would a forum not include the ability to paste text into a message?       -kd5-

    You can use the standard keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V to paste in the forum editor.

    Can you also post the contents of the FlashInstall.log file in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash ?

    I am as well for the past few days. I installed the new version, uninstalled the old that seemed to still be there, uninstalled both and cleaned the registry. It stopped. I installed again last night and lo and behold it is there again this morning. Do I have to uninstall and not use Flash for this to stop? I have WinXP and Firefox 13.0.1, but I think it happened

    with the previous version of FIrefox too.

    Like those who replied previously, I am also getting this error message several times a day.  XP SP3, Firefox 13.0.1, etc.  It doesn't sound like un-installing/re-installing anything resolves this, so I am also among those waiting for a fix.

    1.       Opening the Flash Player control panel in the Windows control panels

    2.       Selecting the Advanced tab

    3.       Clicking “Change Update Settings”

    4.       Choosing “Notify me to install updates”

    I've had mine set that way all along Chris, didn't stop the Installer/Uninstaller from encountering a problem and needing to close (sorry for the inconvenience).       -kd5-

    I am having the same symptoms:

    "Adobe® Flash® Player Update Service 11.3 r300 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

    This notice occurs time after time. A manual installation made no difference. The Adobe Flash site tells me that I have version 11,3,300,262 installed, so I am unsure just why there is an updating attempt.

     

    Win XP 32bit Service Pack 3.

    I will switch to manual updating as Chris recommends and see if there is any difference.

    I was unaware there was a bug election going on.

    I suppose that what I perceived as an error in the software installer is actuall an unwanted campaign poster.

    What other bugs are in the running?

    If it is close will there be a run-off election?

     

    What a novel way to address the problem - support by democracy.

    Obviously you are a progressive socialist with little faith in our system of Adobe gubment. I suppose you think Adobe would correct this bug by royal decree, much as was done with the computer health care issue recently?

     

    Let me tell you something, my friend. In the Adobe nation we are ruled by concrete, immutable, and logical computer calculation, and not by the whims of rebellious rapscallion reactionary upstarts such as yourself.

     

    Let me be the first to assure you that THE MOMENT that Adobe thinks it is good and proper, they will address this minor hiccup, most probably, that makes us want to run naked and screaming and tear out our very living hair follicles... in a timely and forceful manner... sufficient for the cure.

     

    And the ONLY way they are going to know the proper time is when enough of us vote for it so that they know the problem even exists. The actual mechanics of how this vote process brings the probem to their attention in the first place isn't important for rapscallions to understand. You are ONLY required to accept it with the proper humility and grace.

     

    So, I suggest you remove yourself from your high horse of uncertain lineage and start voting. Often. About 12-15 times a day should do for a start.

    If I may, I think my good friend from cyberspace misses the point. If we are to be more than a mob of spamming surrogates, slaves to the problems we face in Adobeland, we need leaders.

     

    And I submit that we do need leaders - leaders that will make the important decisions of the day and not delegate that responsibility to the pollsters and lobbyist and those of us guided by our emotions.

     

    I submit that we must also remember that, no matter what the connection strength or operating system, we all put on our Internet one key at a time.

     

    And furthermore, I think my esteemed colleague would agree that name calling and otherwise bowing to the public pressures of an entertainment-sustained contingent, is no more likely to bring us productive solutions than is the over-simplification and minimization of the problem itself.

    Could it be an unexpected bug due to the fact that the ActiveX and Plugin versioning doesn't match now?

    I don't recall this happening on our systems, until we pushed out the newer plugin (only) build to be compatible with FF13.x.

     

    I remoted into one system and it had

    Faulting application FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe, version 11.3.300.262, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.6055 ...

     

    on 6/30 at 9:58pm

    on 7/2 at 1:58pm

    on 7/2 at 3:13pm

    on 7/2 at 7:12pm

     

    The 3:13pm and 7:12pm times are when I remoted into this system.  The other times look to be scheduled times FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe runs as schtasks.exe shows...

     

    Adobe Flash Player Updater

    "Every 1 hour(s) from 12:58 AM for 24 hour(s) every day, starting 1/1/2000"

     

     

    So, it obviously doesn't crash every single time it runs, since it runs hourly.  I rebooted this particular system and logged in again and it didn't crash and I've executed it manually a few times and it hasn't crashed yet.

     

    However, until Adobe fixes this bug, I guess I'm going to run

    FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe -deleteTask

    on all of our systems, to keep it from running hourly and crashing every so many times.

    I have the same error message, I have experienced this on two machines running Windows XP 32bit one has SP2 the other SP3, has anybody found a fix?

    Until Adobe comes out with a new build of flashplayerupdateservice.exe which doesn't keep crashing, I would delete the scheduled task and also the AdobeFlashPlayerUpdateSvc service.

     

    flashplayerupdateservice.exe -deleteTask

    flashplayerupdateservice.exe -uninstall

    Bored of it!  Voted for fix. 

     

    Meanwhile, stopping the updater seems sensible.  Not sure how best to do it.  What interface(s) should I use to delete the flashplayerupdateervice.exe?  

     

    Task Manager first to delete the task, then Add/Remove programs to uninstall?

    Click START, RUN, type in "services.msc" (no quotes), hit ENTER.  You'll get a window with local services listed.  In that list is "Adobe Flash Player Update Service".  Double click on it and in the following PROPERTIES window will be a "Startup Type" box.  Select "disabled" and click "Apply".

    No more problem until the cure comes along!

    Here's what I've done to disable the auto-update service enterprise wide using SCCM.

     

    1) Push out the following C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg file to all machines with the problematic versions of Flash:

     

    AutoUpdateDisable=1

    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0

     

    (since we're updating Flash with SCCM, I'm not worried about turning off the Auto-Update service. Set AutoUpdateDisable=0 if you want to keep the "Notify Me to Install Updates" option turned on.)

     

    2) It appears mearly pushing out the config change will not disable the update service, even with a restart, so push the following out as well to delete the service:

     

    cmd /c sc config "AdobeFlashPlayerUpdateSvc" start= disabled & cmd /c sc delete "AdobeFlashPlayerUpdateSvc"

     

    (I disable the service before deleting it, as in one test it threw an error if I deleted it immediately.)
