Dispatcher in same box with Publish Server

Jul 29, 2012 8:19 PM

Hi,

I am new in CQ5.

Is there any side effect/potential issue if I have a Dispatcher in the same box with a Publish server?

Assuming there will be 3 boxes, 1 Author and 2 Publish servers (with Dispatcher in one of them).

Thank you for the help.

Kent

You could have both the publish & dispatcher instances on the same machine if this machine have enough power.

Generally for security & you use dispatcher to gain Increased response time, fail-safe coverage & flexibility. The publish instance is usually inside the firewall and calls to it are through the dispatcher which is in DMZ.

In case both Publish & dispatcher in same box, make sure there is firewall setting to avoid direct access to publish instance from external network.

Static content is handled with exactly the same speed and ease as on a static web server. For dynamic content it really deponds on your architecture. So far I have not seen any performance or resource issue in web server due to include of dispatcher apache module/isapi filter.   One of load testing report that includes resource sizes at
