Interesting finds.  Personally, I never open up more than one video at a time, and don't have the courage to test to see if I can make something crash.  Crashes make me freak out, which is why I'm so glad that Mozilla, working with Adobe, was able to quickly  find a fix for the ones I initially reported.

I'm wondering if you've tried enabling/disabling "hardware acceleration" both for Firefox and Flash Player, to see if there's a difference in the amount of RAM consumed. I would assume that enabling hardware acceleration would transfer some of the load to your graphics card, but don't know exactly how it's supposed to work.

I have hardware acceleration disabled for both Firefox and Flash Player, and so far, I've encountered no problems--knock wood.  In fact, disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox finally cured a problem I was having in which drop-down menus that over-hung the Windows Task Bar would leave their image on the Task Bar after they had been closed out!  (Prior to that, the only way to clear it was to click on the "show desktop" button in the far right corner of the Task Bar)

    hi, thanks .

    sorry for my fast reply...

    I am busy now

acceleration ON in firefox (I need it   due tothe fonts

    and acceleration ON in flash.

    video 1080p = 3-6-9-3-4-% cpu load. good

today. 3 tabs YT (testerday 10: this is normal eh

300MB ram of flash.exe > crash by selecting the tab with yt.

reload alla the tabs> 130MB ram only > no crash.

due to the font, I NEED to mantain the FF acceleration ON, otherwise I should switch to other browser

but....you know...for long years I had NOT problem with my settings!!!

(except the silent crash resolved by ff13.0.1). never crash here.

    never crash with 300.257.

=> crash with 300.262!!!! this is very annoying

acceleration always ON in ff and flash since flasj 10.2!!

. so...I guess that this is due to flash 300.262.

    do you agree?

    best,

Turning off "Show Shadows Under Menus" in Windows 7 Performance Settings -> Visual Effects solved the drop-down menus and context menus leaving junk on the Window Borders and such. Here's the Firefox bug on that: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=610713 That's if you don't want to turn off Hardware Acceleration in Firefox.

Did finally get an actual plug-in crash while running NASCAR RaceView after an hour or more: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/c45a2cb6-80b9-425a-a590-4 da852120624

    My opinion:

ff13.0.1 did resolve the silent crash.

11.3.300.257 no problems (except for the focus). I was happy.

Other people did continue to experience flash crahes. therefore adobe released 300.262 (for fixing what kind of crashes?? surely NOT the silent crashes which were already resolved.)

releasing 300.262 adobe introduced some "amelioraments" which introduced some crashes on my system, because since november I dont noticed a "real" flash crash, with 262 I have flash crash with the message posted above.

downgrading to 257 all is ok.

so I wait to read what Chris think about.

    thaks. best,

Many thanks!  Another mystery  solved.   I've only had this PC, an HP Omni 220-1125, since April, and at least once or twice a week I'm faced with a "NOW WHAT!!!"   (If I could only get someone to tell me why OSDManager.exe periodically takes up 99 percent of my CPU when I start or re-boot my PC, I'd be in my glory.  Even the OEM doesn't have a clue at this point.)

I saved what you wrote for future reference, should I start to have problems with "hardware acceleration" disabled.  If anything, Firefox seems to work better without it--some sites load faster, etc.-- and Flash Player is working okay, so I'll leave things as they are, for now.

This makes me wonder if some of the other possible  bazillion combinations of Windows personalization settings is having an impact on the performance of Flash Player.  I'd say it's probably very likely.

    Again, thanks.

    Hello Chris Campbell,

An Adobe Bug Number for the "focus issue" is 3223393.  Any help with the focus issue would be much appreciated!

    Hello Schützenkönig,

Regarding the focus issue, you and any other users experiencing the

focus issue might like to add votes to Adobe bug number 3223393:

    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3223393

The more votes, the higher priority Adobe should assign to the bug.

    please what about the crashes

Added my vote to it. Other issues like crashes and audio problems are more critical but the loss of focus does get annoying sometimes. You know.. why can't I scroll with my mouse wheel? Oh yeah, window doesn't have focus LOL.

I just added my "vote" concering bug 3223393.  Hopefully Adobe or Mozilla will come up with a solution/fix soon; it's getting gosh-darned annoying.

I have to agree with you there.  Looking at the available information about Firefox 13.0.2, it seems that the main "bug" that release will address is the new tab "thumbnail" feature -- http://www.ghacks.net/2012/06/24/how-to-turn-off-firefoxs-new-tab-page -completely/ -- which could actually cause some security problems.

thanks Ortho for the link. yes, it seems that ff 13.0.2 will resolve privacy issues "only".

(amelioraments regarding the blur during smooth scrooling were welcome! but they ignored my bug in bugzilla, ok that is OT here ,)  )

I hope that all the issues with flash (focus but the two kind crash that I wrote here above -in the meantime NO crash ever... and the audio problem --not for me at the moment )

will be fully resolved before the summer holidays

For those still crashing with today's 11.3.300.265 update, it would be very helpful if you could either:

    a. Download and install the Firefox 15 "Aurora" release and submit all crash reports when they occur

    b. Provide reproducible steps so we can verify the issue internally

Crash logs created and submitted with Firefox 15 will allow us to gather critical details that are missing from the current crash reports that are being generated with Firefox 13 and 14.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Would you be willing to test this against Firefox 15 and submit the reports again?  We'll get a much better picture of what's going wrong with logs created with Firefox 15 and greater.

Hi Chris and thanks for your reply.

at this moment I am able only to tell you the step.

    5 tabs with YT: ok.

starting from 8 tabs: ok, but crash if I move the pointer (for jumping forward in the video)

    here all the tab opened

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_2sfmbJ2Pc

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwOZbye7sAk&feature=plcp

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFvjqSIakyc&feature=plcp

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i6wUkT4bd4&feature=plcp

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btbWuHat5ls&feature=plcp

during 2 hours all ok. watching video ok.

crash did happen when I moved the cursor (pointer for skip forward the video).

At the moment this is my "main" pc and I cannot use it for testing (aurora...).

I have to wait for ff15.

    thanks.

    Hi Chris, good news!!

here the crash reports!!! hope this may help you in analyzing the problem. thanks a lot!!

    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/43cc5f27-1bac-4c7a-a23e-f de712120713

    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/b242dc02-2f6d-4695-b527-7 630e2120711

    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-ff2276ae-6c4b-4d75-909 d-bae662120624

2 of 4 are strongly related to flash player

    video url: see above please.

but I think this is not important, because crash did occur with 8-10 videos from here too:

    https://www.youtube.com/user/djandreaa/videos

=> crash occurred only if I was moving the pointer (skip forward) or if I switched to other tabs in firefox without YT!! like this for example:

    http://technologyforumm.altervista.org/index.php?topic=8.0

(freeze of Firefox > crash of flash).

I guess that if I leave all the videos without performing tasks (i.e watch them only, no skip forward, no change the tabs) I become no crash.

    thanks!!

    (are the reports correct?).

Chris, I received today an email from mozilla.

    the report above (

    not only

    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/b242dc02-2f6d-4695-b527-7 630e2120711

    but this too

    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/43cc5f27-1bac-4c7a-a23e-f de712120713 )

are caused by flash -so mozilla.

therefore I hope that these reports may help you to resolve the flash crashes with more tabs with YT, as described above.

=> perhaps this is NOT due to the new sandbox ; i am sure.

thanks for analysis and troubleshooting the issue.

    best,

=> it seems that I am not the only

see here please, more than 14.000 users/1week!!

If I understand right, ONE of my 2 kind crash with flash (more tabs!) is monitored by mozilla...

    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=774092 (closed as duplicate)

    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=763237

    is right?

    my second crash:

    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=774094 (we will see...)

I 'd be happy if you may want to look these links.

=> but...you know, all my crashes occur with flash and more than 5-6 YT tabs.

    thanks-

please let me know what you think about. best,

Unfortunately, the crash logs being submitted by Firefox 14 and below are missing critical information to be useful.  We're stuck trying to reproduce using the steps provided and the majority of the time the crashes that are occurring for customers aren't reproducing internally.  To get crash logs that should help, we're asking users to install the Firefox 15 "Aurora" build, which can be installed along side of your released Firefox version.  If you can reproduce crashes there, please submit them and we'll take a look.

    Thanks,
    Chris

flash 11.4??? the folders above are leer! even with 10 tab YT opened!

We're well aware of this crash, but we haven't been able to reproduce it in the lab.  Are you seeing it consistently, or only after hours of usage with lots of tabs?

If you're able to reproduce it consistently, the following would be interesting data to have:

1.) With ProtectedMode enabled, do you see this problem if you disable hardware acceleration?

To disable hardware acceleration, do the following:

Right-Click on a SWF and choose Settings

Click the left-most tab and uncheck Use Hardware Acceleration

2.) Do you see this problem with the latest Flash Player Beta build?

         http://www.adobe.com/go/flashplayerbeta

    Thanks!

    thanks for you reply!

Xul crashes on ff exit => after hours of usage with lots of tabs!! (i.e my "normal" usage of the browser).

after one hour only (even if I watched youtube): NO crash.

but after hours of usage and with a lot of tabs I have consistently this xul crash.

NO crash with flash sandbox OFF.

I will try in the next days, as you suggested, disabling hw acceleration i flash!!

    thanks.

    Hi Jeromie,

why after a lot months, with flash 11.7.700.169 in Firefox I become every day the XUL crash when closing firefox, after long time usage (more than 8 hours, this is important!), if I use flash with sandbox on and acceleration on?

no crash report generated. only the log bottom.

I guess that this issue will never end. and  the issue happens more frequent now. What think you about?

there are other people with issues with flash sandboxed in Firefox or all the bugs has been fixed?

    thanks. Regards.

Without meaningful crash data, I can't even guess about what the cause is.   Do you experience the same longevity issue in Chrome or Internet Explorer?

If you can provide me with consistent reproducible steps, I can hook up a debugger and try to figure it out.  Otherwise, I'm pretty much stuck.  You could disable ProtectedMode for this use-case if it's critical, and you're dealing with trusted content.

    Hi.

The silent crash happens only with Firefox! (flash sandbox on). vista32, sp2.

Until flash 11.6: after a very long time usage of FF and YT.

With flash 11.7: EVERY time I close FF after using flash sandboxed, even after an half hour usage. also 11.7 is bad.

    steps...

    adbplus, noscript

    15-17 tabs.

open a youtube video: mover the pointer forwards/afterwards to step one minute video or return back on the beginning.

    nothing else.

    perhaps a dxdiag.txt?

yes, I dont remember: the problem arised NOT with flash sandbox, but starting from 11.4: flash sandbox "enhaced" for other peoples,

    for me the problems arised.

I tell it a silent crash on FF exit (signalized by the OS), in the past it was present only in the folder Minidumps, now Minidumps + OS warning (above).

Yes sandbox OFF resolves the issue.

    thanks.

PS: exit FF > task manager: the 2 flash processes disappear: ok. > but firefox.exe still remain (therefore a crash).
