should this be checked or not, I was having a problem and couldn't figure out how to fix it with Internet Explorer "messages telling me Internet Explorer has modified this page to help prevent cross site scripting" so a tech person told me to uncheck a box on adobe. Now when ever I open something from work it opens with adobe which is fine but its different than before and I can't remember which box was checked or unchecked.

Are you referring to opening a PDF in Internet Explorer? If so, perhaps you changed Edit > Preferences > Internet > Display PDF in browser.

Do you have other versions of Acrobat and/or Reader on your system? Your current selections mean the following:

“Unchecked” display in browser means PDF files opened from within your web browser will open in a separate window in Adobe Reader instead.

A checked “display in read mode” means that the PDF will open automatically in Read Mode (without the display of the web browser toolbar).
