Illustrator File open in "Preview" on Mac

I knew there would be a few quirks. I recently upgraded my Mac OS to SL 10.6.3. When using Illustrator (CS4), saved files as .EPS, do not have the appropriate Illustrator icon on the file. When I click on them to open, instead of opening in Illustrator, the file open in "Preview".

 

NOTE: ".AI" files saved, do not have the correct AI icon either, but do open in Illustrator.

 

What can I do to rectify this situation?

    Use Get Info on the EPS file. In the dialog go to the Use this application to open this type of file and choose AI. Then say yes to all files of this type. It won't give the file an AI icon and all EPS files (no matter the origin) will open in AI by default.  And you really should go to 10.6.8

    Thanks Larry, that did it. I'm still not getting the proper ".eps" or ".ai" icon in my folder, with a saved file though. Any thoughts on that?

    Mmmm... I went to View ≥ Show View Opions, and un-checked the box "show icon preview", and the icons showed up correctly.

     

    That seems backwards, yes?
