Install problems due to Windows Installer not being accessed

Aug 2, 2012 3:59 PM

I have been trying to correct the issues with Windows Installer for days.  IO have tried "re-start" through the "run" program via the start menu.  I have tried "fix It" throught Windows web site.  I am running Windows XP media edition and IE 8.  What can I do to allow Windows Intaller access and download Adobe Reader?

What version of Reader are you trying to install? What service pack are you running? I think Reader X requires SP3.

A blank message isn't very helpful...

If I were you, I would try running the Actobat and Reader Cleanup Tool

    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.htm

to remove all traces of any versions of Reader.

Then, if you want to reinstall Reader, download its full installer from

    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

    I answered the message....

When answering via email, the reply text is sometimes swallowed.  But it seems to have worked this time.

What is the exact message you are getting?

What is your Windows Installer version?  (Check the properties of C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe)

Is the Windows Installer service present, and what is its startup type?  (Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services)

Sorry, you already gave the error message(s) you are seeing.  The "network resources" message should not occur when you use Claudio's suggestion.

That is the latest installer, and "manual" is the correct startup type; it should automatically be started when an installer needs it.

Do you get a similar problem when you install anything else?

You may need to re-register or reinstall the Windows Installer; see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346

See also http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315353 if the above does not resolve the problem.
