Hi all,

I have a query. How do I import a PDF file to a FM File. The PDF files are years old and we dont have the source file now. To update the files, Im trying to

retrieve the source files. I did try the File -> Import -> File, Select the document, select the Copy Into Document option and import option.  The document is imported as reference and not an editable file.

Can someone help me with a solution.

Right. That's how that works.

Unless the PDF has paranoid security (and you will have lost the passwords with the source, in all likelihood),

  • you can use Acrobat Reader's Tools > Basic > Select to grab the raw text, and
  • you can use Adobe Illustrator to deconstruct pages and recover images.

What version of Acrobat Pro do you have, if any? It can re-export PDF content in some WP formats (not MIF or FM, however). Adobe is promoting this feature at the moment:

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies.

I just found my source files with another tool. The process used was to generate FM files from that tool and then generate PDF files from FM. I tried this and it works well.

Thanks and Regards,

In Acrobat X Pro, you can use File> Save As> and then choose Microsoft

Word or Other Options to retrieve text-- though it will probably need

some cleanup afterwards. Tools> Document Processing> Export All Images

can retrieve graphics.
