Actually your screenshot is displaying the error that the download is still Extracting. Since it is still Extracting you will not be able to mount the image. If you are finding there is an excessive amount of time in the extraction process then you will want to cancel and try the download again.
You can also initiate a direct download by following the steps listed in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369.
I have the same problem. I spent days downloading the trial (mulitple tries at insanely low download speeds while other sites were downloading at a much higher rate at over 100kb/s) only to run into problems with interruptions in downloading.
Once I finally got it downloaded, it started extracting and I got the exact same error message that the disk could not be mounted.
It is still stuck extracting. When I close download assistant and start up again, I get the error message again.
I have also tried to use the direct links to downloads (i.e. I have tried to avoid using download assistant) and the file I downloaded has the same problem when trying to mount onto a disk manually--not to mention that I have trouble getting the adobe installer to recognize the file.
I downloaded the file to the desktop or a user folder every time--as was recommended.
I am running a brand new macbook pro, lion osx.
Please help
Also, another question:
If I have a direct download file, do I still need to use adobe download assistant to extract the file before I mount it onto a disk? When I try to mount manually, I get the same error message. And according to a comment above, it seems like the file needs to extract before it can mount? Then why does adobe download assistant try to mount before extraction?
The error message (error 4960 --could not mount image to disk) appears every time I start adobe download assistant and that is the only indication I get while waiting hours so far for the file to extract with no movement on the progress bar, etc.
attilathe1 did you initiate a direct download using the steps listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369? If so then you are probably looking at an issue with your Internet connection itself. I would recommend trying a different Internet provider and if successful contacting your current Internet Service Provider.
