How do I import files from iPhoto to Elements 8?

I recently bought my first Mac, and installed Elements 8, which came in a software bundle with my Bamboo drawing pad. However, when I go to import photos from iPhoto, I get a program error. The same is happening when I try to import files to the trial version of Lightroom that I installed.

When you use iphoto you have two choices: set PSE as your external editor in iphoto (preferences>Advanced>Edit Photo) and then always send them from iphoto to PSE, or export the photos to the desktop, edit them, save them, and import the edited photos to iphoto as new files. You cannot and should never try to use File>Open on the iphoto library.

Well, you never "import" photos into PSE 8 for mac, since it doesn't have any kind of database or anything. (Bridge is just a browser--it shows you the current state of any folder you point it to, without keeping  a record of the contents the way organizer does). But yes, if you just want to open photos in PSE, exporting to the folder on the desktop is one way to make them available to Elements for editing.

Select the ones you want, then File>Export:
