The easiest way to determine if some other software is causing the problem is to create a new user account, log in as that user, start AI CS6, and see if you have the same problem. If you don't, that means that some startup item in your main user account is causing the problem. You'll then have to isolate startup items one by one till you find the culprit.

This procedure worked for me (my problem was an app called Butler).

Hope it works for you as well.

If the developers of these application did not follow the guide lines of the SDK, which is lkikely what they did, then it will interfere with other applications thyt do follow the SDK and therefore they are required to fix it.

So what you're saying is that Adobe doesn't follow their SDK guidelines for: CS6 Photoshop, InDesign, Fireworks, etc. ... as well as Illustrator 5.5 was developed outside of the guide lines and SDK? Seriously?

Now you may want it to be Adobe's fault and you seem to think you have a good argument but clearly it does not address he problem you have a software installed that is conflicting and if the users of this software do not report it to the developer thant it will not be fixed aand they sre the only ones tht can fix it. There is no way Adobe can fix it.

Let me get this straight: we are supposed to write to the developers of the utilities because: while it works with every single other program on earth, as well as all previous versions of Illustrator, it NOW does NOT work with Illustrator CS6... they need to fix their software. That's your advice?

I'm afraid to humbly ask, but make a wild guess: what do you think the answer from that developer might be?

So it is actualy your choice.

About the only smart comment you made in this post.

BTW if you want to file this as a bug you can do so here:

    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

If you think it is a bug and you think Adobe is responsible for fixing it this is the portal to the team.

It is rare that an issue is taken seriously without someone filing a report.

Even though I must agree with you, and it is not your fault for stating an unpleasant fact of these forums at Adobe, you sound like a bureaucrat in doing so, and seem to be very proud of that. FYI: most people absolutely abhor bureaucrats and their attenuating "diarrhea of the brain" aka BS. That is unless they are family, friends, and/or loved ones. Even then, it's trying sometimes.

It is this bureaucratic-BS, anti-social, know-it-all attitude, in general considered "being rude"... that I among others, find unacceptable.

Maybe you need a vacation from the drudgery that being a volunteer trouble-shooter entails. I've noticed you've been getting worse lately.

So consider taking a break, if not only from the rudeness part.

Besides, you deserve it... because hey: your World Record Adobe Forum Point total will be intact for months! Believe me

    Interesting!

Also funny I might actually have totake a long break from the Forum, it would be really good luck for me if it happens.

Does anyone know a solution for snow Leopard? I don't have LaunchBar prefs and this issue is making me nuts!!!

Of course it is a bug, regardless of what Wade says.

Oh wait, I was confusing LaunchBar with Mission control in Lion.

I have neither and I am experiencing the same bug. How do f*ck do I fix this in Snow Leopard?

I don't have any drives available, all are clogged with old stuff that will take me too long to even look at, but perhaps you could share with us if it works on a clean drive?

More on the subject, the only thing I installed lately is Default Folder X, but I disabled it a few days ago, could that be the problem?

    Best,

    D.

    Hi David,

I think clean install would help. if you dont want to a clean install then you can try cleaning up your startup items. After you restart your computer, kill the process that seems suspious( it could be a clipboard manager) and then see if copy paste across application works.

I wanted to share that we are aware of this issue and our engineers have been working on some changes to help workaround the behavior from the third party clipboard managers.

At this time we can pretty much recommend either not using the clipboard managers or making sure you keep Illustrator up to date when we make any dot releases to the application.

I removed a preference pane for Control! and the illustrator issue went away, sadly I got a new one in After Effects:

I can't use any shortcut that has the letter C in it, for example, I can't copy, precompose or create a camera.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Thank you - really good to know that Adobe is aware of and working on this.

You did notice (I hope) that many of the people experiencing this do not have 3rd party clipboards installed at all.

When I removed mine - it made no difference in Illustator's inability to let go of its clipboard information until quitting it - at which point it asks if I want to keep my clipboard information!

I had this issue which was indredibly irritating but since upgrading to Mountain Lion it appears to have gone away. Still using iClip and Alfred with Illustrator and no copy and paste issues anymore.

    Mountain Lion, hmmmmm, interesting.

How's that working for you with the rest of the system? I heard so many bad things about Lion, that I decided to stay on Snow Leopard because everything seemed to be stable.

Lion was the worst Mac ever - Mountain Lion has gone a long way toward making it useable again.

Mail search works again - don't have to quit mail because it is stuck 3x daily

Folders actually open and show you their contents (what a concept) without making you wait endlessly.

Snow Leopard was still a smooth favorite - but Mountain Lion is close - even tho it didn't solve my Illustrator issues. Worth a try just keep a bootable back-up in case you find you need a no longer supported program that was dropped - for an emergency repair.

Initially I had a problem with CS6 where AI, FL and FW wouldn't launch but I traced it down to a bad/old font I had installed. I guess Montain Lion and CS6 combined are less forgiving about old postcript fonts than previous systems. So you might want to bare that in mind.

Anyhoo that was the only glitch, it's been pretty sweet, I don't have much use for the new apps like Reminders and Notes as I prefer Things and Simplenote but if anything it runs smoother on my Retina Mac. Performance with Retina and Lion was a bit shaky and I think Apple rushed Retina out when they probably should have waited to launch it with Mountain Lion.

Yes, please update to 16.1 / 16.0.1 respectively as that should resolve the issue as we know it.

Do not copy & paste in Photoshop enough to have seen it there - so no not in Photoshop (don't really use the others) my problem in Photoshop was the constant freezing - which I seem to have cured by unchecking its autosave in preferences.

I had this exact problem with Fireworks and Illustrator CS6 in my Retina Macbook Pro. I had a third party tool called "Get Plain Text" installed that was causing my problem and as soon as I closed it out both programs worked as they should.

My Illustrator has been upgraded to the 16.0.1 and there is no change to the fact that Illustrator is having serious issues with cut-and-paste and clipboard. I am using the cut-and-paste technique to base new charts existing in Excel. CS5.5 works perfectly; CS6 does not (albiet some times it works okay). Today I have built 12 new charts and the cut-and-paste issue arose only on the last two. Same Excel file. Has done this since upgrading to CS6. The upgrade notes for 16.0.1 seem to refer to issues with third party software. I have a standard CS6 installation on iMac, 8GB RAM, OS 10.6.8, all latest CS upgrades.

Another in the LONG list of bizarre "features" in Adobe products.

I've found a work around to this with text in a text box in Illustrator NOT copying out to ANY third party program as anything other than an image.

Copy the text, create a new text box on the same page in Illustrator, paste it in.  Now copy this text, paste it into the address bar of any internet browser, now select all this text in the address bar of your browswer and copy it all, and NOW paste it where you really want it -> plain text!

    Yew!

    Running: Mac OS 10.8

    Applciation: Abobe Illustrator CS6 (16.0)*

I was experiencing this problem too.  I could not copy screenshots (SHIFT + OPTION + ⌘ + 4) into Illustrator.  Insrtead, when I hit CMD (⌘) + V, Ilustrator would paste in the last object/text that I had copied in Illustrator.

I do run PTHPasteboard (aweseom BTW!!) for a clipboard utility, however I have been using PTH for about 5 years without incident.  Only Illustrator WAS experiencing this problem.

*I was able to fix the problem by updating to the latest version of Illustrator which is 16.2.1.  It appears that 16.x has the clipboard bug.

Are you using the subscription based Illustrator? I have 16.0.4 and it the updater manager shows no updates available. I have a purchased copy on my computer, not subscription based.

Also on a side note, you have the shortcut wrong, to take a screenshot nd have it automatically saved to the desktop you need to hold ⌘+SHIFT+4; if you want to keep it on the clipboard and paste it directly in Illustrator (or any other program) you need to add CTRL to the combo.
