Have Serial Number, Says Invalid

So I went through the process to get the serial number for the CS6 Suite, but when I enter it to extend the license, it says that it's invalid. What do I need to do?

    Did you obtain the serial number from Adobe?  Which operating system are you using?  Do you have any other Adobe software installed?  Are you able to register the serial number successfully on Adobe.com?

    I got the serial number from Adobe fine, it just says that it's invalid when I enter it. I'm on the new OS X Mountain Lion and the CS6 Suite was installed for me by the tech support at my university on the OS X. However, the Adobe CS6 box says Windows on it, so I don't know if that's relevant. I have Windows 7 on the computer too, but I don't see why the serial number should be an issue relevant to what OS I'm using right now. I'm supposed to be using the CS6 on the OS X. I don't have any other Adobe software installed otherwise; it's a brand new computer. How do I go about registering the serial number on Adobe.com and how would that help me?
