Why won't my old CS3 files save when using Creative Cloud apps?

I just bought a new macbook pro and transferred all my CS3 design files to the new machine.  I then began the trial version of Adobe Creative Cloud and downloaded the latest version of Fireworks.  When I opened fireworks it stated that the file was created using a legacy program, which it was, and that I needed to update the text.  I clicked update and began working on the file, making a few changes.  However, when i went to save the file, it said it could not save the file.  I reopened the file and no changes were saved.  I then made the changes again and this time it worked.  Am I going to have this problem with every file that I created in CS3?  How do I fix this permanently for all files?
