What firewire cards does CS6 support?

Aug 4, 2012 7:17 PM

My CS6 Premiere Pro bundle is about to arrive next week and I'll be doing A LOT of video capture from older devices using Firewire 400 (Mini DV and even some Hi8).

Could someone confirm a fireware 400/800 PCI-e card what works with CS6?

I've gone thru the documentation online on hardware compatibility but found nothing that mentioned Firewire 1394.

Thanks, Rob.

They should all work fine.  FireWire is a pretty specific standard without variation.

But...why do you need a card?  It's rare these days to find a mobo without FireWire built-in.

What is the brand/model of your computer (or motherboard, if self built) and what does the hardware manual say about built-in Firewire?

    Jim,

Actually it's rare these days to find a newer motherboard WITH firewire ... USB 3.0 the Thunderbolt have many motherboard manufacturers phasing out Firewire.  Agree, they "should" all work, but in my experience some work better than others.  Was hoping that someone could positively say YES XYZ brand will work with CS6.

    John,

Yes, custom built rig (Asus MB), no firewire on board.

    Cheers, Rob.

    Rob,

As long as it uses the TI chip, and is a regular FW400 board, you should be OK. I would avoid boards that have FW800 or that use the VIA chip or other brand.

Wow, you're right.  Over at Newegg, they list only 83 out of 364 Intel boards with FireWire built-in.  And 268 with at least one USB 3.0 port.

    How things change...
