Lightroom Develop Module different that Adobe tutorials

Aug 5, 2012 11:41 AM

I have Lightroom 4.1 for Mac. In all the tutorials that I have seen from Adobe and others, the Basic options in my Develop module do not have the same controls. See attached for my Basic controls. On the tutorials there are "highlights, shadows, whites and blacks". On mine the controls are Exposure, Recovery, Fill light, and Blacks. There are other differences as well. On Adobe's site the top two are Exposure and Contrast' I have Brightness and Contrast BELOW the other four. what's going on?  Have i missed something? See the two screen captures. The large one is my module, the smaller from Adobe totutorial.Adobe Lightroom module.jpgDevelop Module Basic Lightroom 4.1.jpg

It depends on what process version you are using:

PV 2012 in LR4.1 uses completely new algorithm to "develop" your RAW files ( with a new sliders panel and other changes you saw) and is considered by the majority of users as better (less artifacts) than PV 2010 of LR 3.6.

Did you upgrade from LR 3.6 ? That explains why you  saw PV 2010 on your transferred catalog.

Now don't change them all to PV2012 if you are satisfied with the result under PV 2010.

Because the same treatment of sliders don't exist, your 2010 settings cannot be transferred-

Try one photo : Make a virtual copy first. Then do a reset. Your virtual copy will then be PV 2012. Then try to get the same or better (or worse) result as PV2010.

If you are used to PV 2010 it takes some patience and practice to get used to PV 2012.
