Trouble Shrinking image w/out loss of detail - ??

Hello: Level: Newbie OS: Windows 7 64bit IA: CS6

I am having trouble shrinking this compass I made.

I have the box ticked in the preferences that says to scale strokes and effects.

I made the original image 420X420 the one below is 380X380

The second image is 190X190. As you can see the increments become pushed together. I actually want this image to look exactly like the first picture at an icon size of roughly 64X64.

Is there a way I can keep the look of this compass but make it icon size?

Kara,

If you wish to make a raster image at whichever size(s), there is no need to change the size of the vector artwork: you can just set the image size in the Image Size window in Save for Web & Devices (or what it is called in CS6). There you can (or could, maybe it is somewhere else in CS6) also tick Anti-Alias, to avoid jaggedness.

You should be aware that the fine details cannot be shown in a small raster image. There is a limit, and below that you may consider a simpler version.

Gosh, there's so much to learn. I've already got three notebooks full of Ps notes alone never mind Illy.

Sometimes I feel like I've just figured some'n out and then there's more ... lol ... loads more. erg.

Just to elaborate a tiny bit on the simpler version option, in this case you may consider replacing the single degree tick marks (or tic marks if they get too troublesome) by a partially transparent Transparency>Opacity less than 100 solid colour between the circles, behind the longer tick marks (this sounds really coherent). This may replace some strange irregularities by an average colour showing that there is something, thus making the viewer see the unseen (this sounds really really coherent).

The lesser principal winds (directions NE, SE, SW, NW), and the numbers are the next to go and just become pale turds; they will still make sense, at least until the four greater principal winds go.
