Fluid Grid with sub grids

I have a fluid grid layout div set to a width 100% called header (12 columns).

 

Inside that header, I would like to have 2 grid aligned divs (one at 9 columns and another at 3).

 

I know that I can't nest fluid grid layout tags, but is there a way to add a regular div that is grid aligned?

 

I am used to using the 960 grid system and I would just nest 2 divs with alpha and omega tags along with grid_9 and grid_3.  How can I do that with adobe's new fluid grid layout system?

PS... also if there is any good books or articles about adding content to a fluid grid layout, please point me in the right direction!
