My company has ProE WF4.0. It has a feature to save a 3D models to a 3D PDF file format [PDF U3D (*.PDF)]. We had hoped to uses this feature for web, reports and presentations, but the rotation is confusing. The model does not spin, rather it seems to move erratically in all directions, even out of site. It seems to be somehow related to mouse position, but that has proven hard to determine.
The file origins are typically in the middle of the assembly, but that seems to have no bearing on how the PDF 3D is referenced.
Any thoughts on this?
Is this an Adobe or ProE issue?
Are there techniques in ProE that can help better define references for 3D rotation?
Thanks for any responses on this.
Orbits in the Acrobat 3D viewport are always in camera space, so they center on the camera's target point. That's not necessarily the world space origin.
Couple of things to try:
If zooming to the part fixes the problem then it's a camera/world space mismatch in the U3D file - the quickest fix is to save your new zoom-to-part view as the default, via the Manage Views dropdown on the 3D toolbar in Acrobat.
Dave,
Thanks for the information. We applied your information and suggestions. it was an improvement, but still far from behaving as we would like to see in presentations and web pages. ALL CAD applications reference an origin. Ours is always placed in the center of the drawing. Not sure why Adobe can't offer this as an option?
