My version of CS6 for Mac OS Lion does not behave like this. After selecting the crop and hitting return, PhotoShop does nothing. There is nothing in the documentation to explain this behavior and no way to make it work like previous versions of PhotoShop ("classic mode" does not change behavior). My work around has been to select the crop with the select tool, then cut to clipboard and paste into a new image. Do you have a better workaround to the new crop tool? Any ideas how to reinstall version 5?
On windows 8 cs6 if i define an area to crop and hit enter or return, that commits the crop just like cs5.
Did you try both the enter and return keys?
The directions for the cs6 crop tool are here:

ok, now i AM confused. btw, CS6 cloud. lolz. i figured ok, screenshot. good idea, then they can see what i am yakking about. now i don't have an image open, so the entries are of course grayed out, but nonetheless right there under Image is the familiar Image Rotation entry.
so, in order to further this, allow me to reopen some of the images in question and see if the entry is still missing there. thanks.
OK. now i am even more amazed. the Image Rotation command has reappeared. as if by magic. last night, in order to flip an image horizontal i had to bind all the layers together, deleting the locked background layer, and then use the edit transform function. no kidding. not my imagination. anyway it seems to have become its old self. any idea what might have caused this "anamoly"? wow!
if it reoccurs i will certainly get a screen capture...
