Acrobat PDF documents freeze after open (then thaw after 7 seconds)

Hello - this is my first post to a forum of any kind so please forgive me if I am not using proper etiquette (or posting in the wrong forum).  About two months ago Adobe Acrobat Pro started acting differently.  Following is a summary of the suspicious behavior:

 

1) Open any PDF document - either on a network drive or on computer hard drive

2) Document functions normally for roughly 11 seconds after which time Acrobat Pro completely freezes for roughly 7 seconds

3) After the 7 second freeze the document returns to normal operation

 

During the frozen state there is no Acrobat functionality - no scrolling, selecting, etc.

 

I have found two posts on this forum about this issue but both remain unanswered.

 

I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 9.5.0.

 

Any help with a solution would be appreciated.
