I purchased a new Apple iMac last week to replace my old HP laptop with Windows Vista. As a keen photographer I use Photoshop Elements 9 and have a large number of photos held on my old computer, many will have Versions.
I therefore want to transfer these files, with the version still attached to each file, from PC to iMac but after running Apple’s migration assistant several times (at approx 7/8 hours each time) this has just not worked.
I’m okay at transferring other files like word, excel etc with a memory stick as there isn’t too many but really struggling with the PSElements transfer and wondered if you could possible advise on the best way to do it?
So far I have tried this, several times:
I used “Click free C2” as my external hard drive which is ok for PC and Mac and as suggested by Adobe Helpdesk, formatted it to “Exfat” files, which took around 7 hrs to process!
I then opened Elements in the PC, selected “Back up my Catalog to a Hard Drive”, full back up, created a new folder and ok - back up started and completed after about 3 hours.
I then connected the Hard Drive to the iMac and selected in Elements, “Restore Catalog from Back up or Hard Drive”, found folder name, Put to new location and ticked original folder structure (which I hope means will keep the files with versions as they currently are?).
Clicked ok and the message “No valid file available on this hard drive” comes up, however if I look at the content of the drive via my computer, I can see the file is there!
As these processes are very time consuming and to no avail, any advice or information on what I am doing wrong would be most welcome!
Make a full backup from Organizer on the HP (e.g. to an external hard drive that is PC & Mac compatible)
Restore on the Mac. See these notes which are valid for all versions since PSE6.
