Dreamweaver Wordwrap

Oct 22, 2006 4:48 PM

How do I permanently turn off the "View -> Code View Options -> Word Wrap" setting in Dreamweaver 8? It defaults to on every time I open a document and it gets on my nerves because there isn't even a hot key to turn it off. Thanks.

The setting of all Code View Options should be "sticky". In other words,
Dreamweaver remembers your most recent setting at the time the program
is closed. Deselect Word Wrap, save all documents, and close
Dreamweaver. When you reopen the program, Word Wrap should be off.

Make sure you understand the two different types of word wrap in
Dreamweaver. The word wrap setting in Dreamweaver Preferences inserts
hard return. The setting in Code View Options inserts a soft return - in
other words, it works like a word processor by keeping everything
visible in the viewport, but doesn't insert any returns into the actual
    code.

It is really helpful at times to have a hotkey to turn codeview word wrap on and off.

Here is a quick summary of how to set this up in DreamWeaver CS6

    1. Off the menu: Edit; Keyboard Shortcuts

    2. Verify the current keyboard shortcut set:

If you have a custom set of keyboard shortcuts select that as the current set.

          otherwise

       select the Dreamweaver Standard set

Click on the + button next to shortcuts and create a copy of the shortcut set

    3. Select the "Menu Comands" in the commands dropdown

    4. Expand "View" and "Code View Options"

    5. Select Word Wrap

    6. Click on the + button to add your shortcut keys

    7. Click OK

Now in codeview you should be able to toggle wordwrap by pressing your hot key combination.
