Acrord32.exe does not launch Reader

Some info to start - I am using Windows XP (Service Pack 3); Adobe Reader 9.5

 

Acrobat Reader has now decided it doesn't want to open - whether I go directly to the executable (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader) or a desktop shortcut -  Double Clicking the file produces nothing.

 

What I've Attempted

I've tried a repair via the Windows Control Panel

I've completely uninstalled the program

I've go directly to Adobe's site and reinstalled the app

I've confirmed that my file associations are proper (PDF is associated with Reader)

I even attempt install the most recent version of Reader (10), but nothing works.

 

I can views pdfs from the a web site (my bills, etc), but nothing that is stored locally.  

 

I've been trouble shooting for a few hours now, and could really use some help.   Thanks in advance.
