Yesterday I upgraded to Photoshop CS6 using an install disk mailed from Adobe.  Photoshop CS6 itself appears to be working fine, but both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Bridge CS6 crash on startup with the standard Windows popup ("Adobe Bridge CS6 has stopped working.  Windows is searching for a solution...").  Bridge CS5 still works great, as it did before the CS6 installation.

The Windows Event Viewer shows the following message for the crash of the 64-bit version:

Faulting application name: Bridge.exe, version: 5.0.0.399, time stamp: 0x4f5ec28e

Faulting module name: MMXCore.8BX_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4f308138

and the following for the crash of the 32-bit version:

Faulting application name: Bridge.exe, version: 5.0.0.399, time stamp: 0x4f5ec62d

Faulting module name: MMXCore.8BX_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4f308107

I've rebooted multiple times and tried reinstalling from the upgrade disk, but the problem persists.

The installation is on a machine dedicated to Photoshop whose system info is included below.  I'm running a multi-disk setup with 1 SSD as my C drive, another SSD for Temp and Scratch (in different partitions on the same SSD), and a RAID 5 array of hard drives for the actual image files.  To my knowledge I'm running with the latest drivers of everything.

I'm not sure how to move forward at this point.  Any information or assistance would be most appreciated.

David

Hi David,

Can Bridge work if you run it as administrator? If yes, will it generate a temp file named like “Photoshop Tempxxxxxx” under the root of C drive when Bridge launch? If still yes, it should be a same issue as what others encountered. And we are investigating this issue now.

Interestingly enough a user had this same problem posted in the Photoshop Forum yesterday.  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4388012

The OP said he would wait until Adobe helped, so no answer from that post.

The problem lies in the defaulting module MMXCore.88X.  Not sure what this means as have only seen this on these 2 posts.  A web search does not provide many answers.

Let us know what you find or do not find, as this may be a new problem with CS6.

Did you use CS6 beta?  And if so did you unstall it first?

Did you migrate any CS5 stuff to CS6?

I did see that other thread, but there seems to be more confusion that clarity there so I am hoping that someone from Adobe will chime in here.  MMXCore.88X has been part of the Photoshop installation for several releases now, so again I'm hoping the Adobe folks will have some insight.

I would recomend you visit the ps thread I referenced occasionally and comment as needed.  The Photoshop Forum it is a lot more active and the more eyes that better the chance of getting a solultion.

Even though that is the wrong fourm for a Bridge question, it is an unusual problem that may be related to CS6.  You essentially have the CS6 beta program that was coded in March.  The recoding will take a little longer so keep your eye peeled for any dot releases.  Bridge was recoded as it is now a 64 bit program, but I see from your crash reports it crashes in both programs.

This has been sent to a Bridge engineer so hopefully they will give  some guidance on this thread.

Having the same problem here too after upgrade from CS5 Extended to CS6 Extended. I did not install the Beta version. Uninstalled CS5 first and did clean install of CS6. Bridge starts fine but crashes out as soon as the main window appears. Photoshop itself is fine. CS6 package installed on SSD and using internal hard drive as a scratch disk. Resent paying out for the best package in the business and then having to ensure I run as Administrator just to use it.

Adobe - we need a fix for this now.

I'm having this same issue. Bridge crashes on startup. I have the 64 bit version installed. Running it as admin seems to work, but I'd rather not be forced to do that.

Simaon and digiscuro, as you should see in the post above Adobe is working on fixing the issue.  They can reproduce the problem now need to find a coding fix.  Hopefully the next dot update will see a solution.

Chenglong,

Another user of SSD drives has this same problem.  Might it be related to the SSD drivers?

Here is latest OP post with problem.   http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1005804?tstart=0

I'll add one more to the pile.  CS6 64 under Win7 64.  UAC turned off (never used it).  Both CS6 and CS6 Bridge set to Administrator status for loading.  I downloaded an update today's date and reported the freeze (Waiting for Bridge CS6 ...).  I performed a hard reboot and was able to load Bridge so thought I was out of the woods.  However after closing CS6 and returning later to resume work, CS6 loads but Bridge does not.  I'm not using SSD.  Tried loading CS6 with Ctrl key depressed to reset.  Bridge still not loading.  Tried loading it directly from a shortcut as Admin - no luck.  I do have CS5 installed.  I did not load CS6 beta.  I have a CS6 upgrade from the DVD.

Some have reported you need to do a computer re-boot after the recent update for Bridge to work.  Try and see it that helps.

The update was mostly to do with cross communication with other programs than bug fixes.

Rebooting the computer will enable Bridge to work.  However, once I close CS6 / Bridge, I can restart CS6 but Bridge will not restart, giving me the same "Waiting for Bridge CS6..." message but doing nothing.  I also note the little Bridge icon in the Taskbar (Win 7 64 bit) but it seems frozen and no menu is available to close it.  Only a hard reboot will reset things.

What you mentioned is a mini Bridge issue, which is not same as the issue mentioned in this thread.

This should not be related to SSD drive. The reason why most users of SSD drive encounter this issue is they always set the temp folder location to other drive instead of C.

There are a couple of threads on this problem.  I can always start Bridge from a cold booted computer, but once I load CS6 and Bridge to work on images and then close them, Bridge cannot restart until the computer is rebooted.  I can reload and run CS6 and load individual images into CS6, but I cannot activate Bridge once it is closed until I reboot.  I read elsewhere that Adobe has been able to duplicate the problem and is working on it.  I have not seen any progress to date.  This is apparently not restricted to Win7 but also affects Macs, so there is a bug in the 64-bit coding.  I have not tried running CS6 in 32-bit mode, as I don't use it that way.  Suggestions to clear settings with a Ctrl-boot have not helped.  There seems to be some cache that is not being terminated when the Bridge module closes?  (Edited - see below)

One more helpful bit of information.  I tried CS6 again and Bridge would not load.  I exited CS6 and opened the Windows Task Manager.  Under processes, I found Bridge still running, although there was no Bridge icon in the taskbar (as it often displays).  So I terminated Bridge under the Task Manager Processes tab, then reloaded CS6 and Bridge came up OK.  So the quick fix is to open Task Manager, Processes tab and check to see if Bridge is still running which is preventing a second session from working with a newly reopened CS6.  The problem seems to be that Win7 (and Mac?) is not properly closing the first Bridge session thus preventing it from loading a duplicate session, but still unable to work with a reloaded CS6.

We do need to fix this in dot update. But we have not yet finalized the time of publishing dot update. Hopefully, it will come soon.

The issue is allways the same! For each CS6 Program (Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge, MiniBridge) and it occurs, when you change the Standard User Temp-Folder to another location than the standard setting

If you get back to standard all works fine.

Standard is

Temp=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp

and tmp=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp

But I hope Adobe will fix this behavior and make it possible to change the location of the User - Temp - Folder...

Hi,

after using this "start as admin" workaround for some weeks now, I encountered some more problems while using it:

- Nested projects in Photoshop do not work: I cannot import an Illustrator file if I am not using Photoshop as admin. So the "set location to another drive than C:" does not help very well...

- All programs I have to use as admin do not support drag & drop from the Windows Explorer anymore (which is a consequence of admin mode in Windows, but makes working complicated).

- Some preferences won't save, for example things like the window position. That does not cause any trouble in first place, but I wonder if there are more preferences which will be lost on a restart...

This leads me to the same question as above:

How is the progress on this issue? Because it makes it almost impossible for me to work in a reliable way in CS6...

Looking forward to an update

Dot release of Bridge have not been out yet to fix the problem.

If you have the temp folder on the C drive does it work for you?

I just purchased Adobe Design and Web Premium CS6 and have not been able to launch Bridge either.  I have read through the various threads and have tried the various solutions mentioned, not a single one has worked.  My machine is running Windows Vista Business, Service Pack 2.  I seem to be able to launch all of the other applications in the suite except Bridge.

My Windows event log read this:

"Faulting application Bridge.exe, version 5.0.0.399, time stamp 0x4f5ec62d, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18541, time stamp 0x4ec3e3d5, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000b06b7, process id 0x9b0, application start time 0x01cd42792231ba8d."

I am not able to run as administrator either.  Is there a fix in the works for this?  Please advise.

Regards,

Phil Sutphin

You problems lies with faulting modulle ntdll.dll.  Apparently there are lots to things that can cause this problem.

Spy or virus, bad install, bad drivers, and a whole list I see on google.

Don't have a magic bullet.  Might start with a virus scan.
