Missing photos in folder in organizer

I create folders on my PC for every group of pictures I take. I have started using the organizer and had previously imported all my photos from the varios folders into the organizer. I always display the folder list on the left side of the organizer screen and the tags on the right.

    I moved a bunch of the folders in explorer (not organizer) to consolidate them into master folders. Now when I open organizer and click on the folder it is empty. I tried to import into organizer and it says that there are no pictures or they are already in organizer.

   So I did a reconnect and it found 16,000 and supposedly reconnected them. but they still don't show in organizer when I click on the folder. I have 42,000 photos and virtually none of them show in organizer but they all claim to be in organizer.

 

How do I get them to show in organizer? Do I have to delete my catalog and start over?

    It's best to re-connect to maintain tags and albums.

     

    File >> Reconnect >> All Missing Files

     

    When you get the pop-up hit browse.

     

    Select batches on the left (shift-click) and navigate to the new folder in the right hand panel to establish the new file path to the images.

    I am trying that now, it said it was generating thumbnails and it is now searching for each missing file, one at a time through both my drives and all 42,000 files, it is on the second missing file.

       I am tempted to hit browse but the missing file is a generic on and may have been deleted, I hate to hit cancel since I think it may take me out of the reconnect completely and I will have to start over. I will give it another 10 minutes and see what happens

    If you hit browse you will see a loist of files and their previous file path. It may be quicker if you know which folder they are now located in.

    I am wondering if I should try creating a new Catalog, while leaving the "My Catalog" there so I can see what tags I have and pull each folder one at a time into the new catalog and tag each photo.

       At least I could probably try it with one folder and see if it will work.  I hadn't used tags and the organizer for the last couple versions because I like to be able to quickly move folders on my pc and add and delete photos direct from my camera to the folder not going through organizer.

    Yes.

     

    Nothing to be lost in trying and you can always switch back.

    I think I see some of the problem, when I first started using PSE10 I started the catalog, was importing each folder one at a time, got busy never finished, there are 16,000 missing files.  I am deleting them all, it will take at least an hour. then I will go back and try importing one folder at a time and tagging them at the same time.

       If that doesn't work I will try the second catalog, I may try that anyway.

    In your old catalog, click on the green "plus" symbol in the Keyword Tags panel and choose "Save Keyword Tags to File".  Your entire tags hierarchy will be saved as an XML file.

     

    In your new catalog, use the "plus" symbol and choose "From File" to import your tags hierarchy.
