When I import  files from my D300 camera with lightroom 4 on my windows PC it works  fine. But when I  try  to import the  same files to my Mac Air I get the error message from lr could not read files. It even shows the thumbnails on the Mac but lr will not import the files. Anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?

Could you post the exact wording of the error message in full, sometimes it can be caused because the destination folder where the files are to be copied to is read only.

It's important that we know exactly what the error message is. In your first post, you claimed that "it could not read files", but that isn't what you said in your latest post. Like Denis said, if the message is that the files could not be read, it often means that you don't have write access to where you are copying them.

Try using the Finder to copy the images to where you want them to live and then use the Add option (instead of Copy) when you import.

It sounds like a permissions issue with the place yu are trying to import to. Check the perissions of the Folder or Drive. Do this using Get Info for the Folder and Drive.

I just solved my problem.  For reasons I don't understand, I didn't have write permissions to the folder where I store my LR library.

To solve this (Mac) - I selected the folder that's at the top of my library directory structure (actually - the top of the directory tree) and did a command-i.

From there, I opened the "sharing & permissions" section and made sure I and read and write permissions.  Then I selected "apply to enclosed items..." from the gear menu below and all is now good.

I hope this helps any others who run into this issue.
