Is my clipping mask broken?

Hi all, I've followed like 5 tutorials and all I get is this annoying thing;

 

I started from this, I want to remove the lines that is out of the outline of the car

then I get this after highlighting both of them and make a clipping mask:

anyone knows what steps I should make to prevent this?

    Make sure the path of the car is the front object in the stack and on the same layer or a layer on top.

    What's the problem with the result? It does what you wanted to do.

    I want my lines to be in the car. I want to ''erase'' all the lines outside of the car and leave the lines within the car, but i am unable to attain that result.

    But that's what you have: the parts of the lines inside the car.

    With the Direct (or Group) Selection Tool select the car outline, now a clipping path, and apply a color to the stroke and/or fill. The "Clipping Mask>Make" command removes such attributes, and they must be reapplied if you want them.

    Do you mean you want the outline of the car to remain? You should be able to reapply a stroke to that shape.

    @Monika - hey, your answer reminded me of the Photoshoptroll.com site... LOL!

     

    Actually, this has been a request for years: that clipping paths RETAIN their attributes... at least Fill and Stroke... after choosing make Clipping Mask. Also that a clipping mask that has a fill, is actually able to be selected by clicking on the fill "visually" without resorting to only being able to click on it's path (or the layer panel selector).

     

    As evidenced, the current behavior totally screws up new users to Illustrator.

    well. Yes, it has. And actually you can do that since version CS5 by working in Draw-inside-mode.

     

    But I'm not good at reading thoughts. And my crystal ball has fallen to the floor long ago. So I wasn't joking around, I wanted to know what was the problem.
