Webpage does not show correct in Explorer (and Opera)

Aug 8, 2012 5:38 AM

Hello

I bought a Dreamweaver template which shows correct on Explorer. But mine doesn't. When I check the syntax, there is a message that a "ul-Tag" is not allowed as child of element ul.

URL is

www.5staraviation.ch

The following part regards the syntax with ul/li ...

Thank you very very much for your help!

Carol

    This kind of HTML is what the validator is complaining about -

    <li>  Scheduled Maintenance Checks</li>

                                        <ul class="list00">

    You cannot have a <ul> as the child of a <ul> - it must either be the child of a <li> or of some other container.  For example -

    <ul>

         <li>Item 1</li>

         <li>Item 2

              <ul>

                   <li>Item 2-1</li>

                   <li>Item 2-2</li>

              </ul>

              </li>

         <li>Item 3</li>

    </ul>

    That is a properly nested list, but this is not -

    <ul>

         <li>Item 1</li>

         <li>Item 2</li>

              <ul>

                   <li>Item 2-1</li>

                   <li>Item 2-2</li>

              </ul>

         <li>Item 3</li>

    </ul>

    So, you need to go through your many nested lists and make sure you have followed the correct syntax.

    Any chance you could post a link to an uploaded page (even a test page in a test folder)?

    I'm thinking you might have the doctype set incorrectly, or a missing tag somewhere.

    I think Murray nailed it.

    There are some other issues in the code as well. You may find these two pages useful in finding/fixing problems...

    You have some fairly heavy images on that page.  And frankly, I don't like the whole approach you have taken.  How would someone bookmark a page?

    yes, I know about the images... I try to size them down. Do they load all at the same time?

    They are requested from the server at roughly the same time but will load at different times depending on net congestion and image weight.

    If it were me, I'd pitch the site and give it a do over. From a seo standpoint, I believe this one page for all content is a very unfavorable approach.

    There are many good examples on the web, but if you want something that takes you by the hand and walks you through the customization process, then I don't think you can do better than the PagePacks from http://www.projectseven.com.  It is a commercial extension but the designs and methods are genuinely first class.

    I am not associated with PVII as anything other than a friend of the owners and a long-time user of their products.

    I was concerned with the approach too when I viewed the site BUT maybe we are stuck in a time warp. I'm seeing a lot of webpages kind of go this way. Image heavy as a result of high speed braodband. They provide a bit more of an impact than the usual slightly anemic looking pages from the past.  I had no trouble getting around the site myself, it all flowed very smoothly and visually to me it looked impresssive. I guess you have to weigh up the pros and cons.
