Document jumps all over screen.  Possible corrupt InDesign software?

I run my InDesign CS5 on a Mac Quad Four and have a very unusual problem…when working on any document (no matter how large or small) the document page will jump all over, within the window, of its own accord.

 

At first I thought my bluetooth mouse was defective, so I bought a new one.  That didn't help.  So today I purchased a 'wired' mouse and experienced the same problem.

 

I have a 30" monitor and always reduce the size of the InDesign document window so that the pallets are off to the side allowing a clean view of my document.  Now, when I try to reduce the size of the document window it jumps to different sizes.

 

This is nuts!

 

Does this sound like maybe my software has become corrupted?

 

All help is greatly appreciated.

    No, this did not fix my problem.

     

    I did some searching on the web and came up with "The Mac Guys" website.  They posted a fix for a 'corrupted' InDesign file.  I thought, Hmmm, maybe that's my problem.  A corrupted 'file' as opposed to a corrupted software program.  So, I followed their directions, and by George, I think it is fixed!  Will know more tomorrow when I have a chance to 'really' work with my file.

    Highly unlikely that fixed your problem. What you describe is fairly typical of both the Apple Magic Mouse and a heavy touch or Live Screen Drawing, which, fom your description sounds more likely.

     

    On Mac, open the InDesign menu, then Preferences, then go to to the Interface section and set Live Screen Drawing to Delayed or Never.

    if indesign has no such interface live screen preference. say indesign cs4 or below, you can set the display performance scrolling hand tool to "better performance"

     

    my god, the jumping around screen was driving me bonkers.

    Wow, this response was a surprise.  Thank you for responding though.

     

    The problem was my mouse.  Yup.  I had just purchased an Apple Magic Mouse.  Apparently it does not work with InDesign CS5.  (Go figure.)  The problem was fixed once I went back to using my original Apple cordless mouse.

    Thanks, I too experienced the jumping mouse with the apple magic mouse in CS5. Using Leopard and CS4, never had a lick of trouble and forgot the mouse (trackpad as well) was at fault. switched to the new something lion and CS6, now i get the jumpiness with CS4 when using the magic mouse. maybe that's why its called magic, no control.

    An old Wired Mighty mouse got the jump out.

    This may be a bit of a misleading thread.

     

    While the Magic Mouse seems to have been the issue for a couple of people here, for a lot of people it works just fine. I've been using the Magic Mouse with Indesign since it was first released - and still using it now with both Indesign CS5 and CS6.

     

    It's definitely a personal preference - and there's nothing wrong with that - it is a big issue for some people and not at all for others. Of the seven Indesign users in my immediate vicinity, five are happily using the Magic Mouse with Indesign all day every day, the other two are not.

     

    There's nothing wrong with some people not liking it, but it's not accurate to say the Mouse is the whole problem.

    I'd agree with @flaming1. I'm very happy with using the Magic Mouse on my iMac.

    There are numerous reports of problems with trackpad and magic mouse when using the zoom and scale functions (amonst many other tasks and softwares like grab). those are the worst for me, i have to have two mice handy and just switch between them to do relatively minor actions and tasks.

    gets very frustrating. to date, i have spent over $2,000 on input devices since Lion was introduced to attempt to correct the error. so from a marketing standpoint, failure of apple and adobe to communicate better in development and execution has been a benefit to the economy.
