What does upgrade from mean

I was going to purchase Elements 10 but do not know what "Upgrade from" means - can I not buy it if it is the first time buying Photoshop??

To qualify for the upgrade, you have to have a previous version of PSE. However, the full version is usually at least as cheap as the upgrade if you shop around, so it's no loss.

Thank you, Barbara. I only have an old version of regular Photoshop version 4.0 - would that work? I don't see any other version other than 9 or 10 - does this mean I cannot buy it? Ooops I just realized that the 4.0 may not work uwith Windows 7 version since this is a new computer and the other computer had XP on it - what is cheapest thing to do? I am a student.

The cheapest way by far is to see if you can get PSE through your bookstore or another academic bookstore. If not, shop around at places like amazon and big box stores. They always have the full version for much less than the upgrade.

Regular photoshop doesn't qualify for PSE upgrades any more than PSE qualifies you for the regular upgrade price for PS.
