Video from mp4 file doesn't play. Audio fine.

I obtained an MP4 file of July 4 fireworks to use as a backdrop for front titles for a concert video. I played it with two different media players, and it played perfectly (audio and video). I brought it into PE10 and onto the timeline. When I played it, only the audio played. I am running out of time to get this file in place because I have titling to do, music that I have to overlay during the fireworks, etc. Please Help!

    Here is the screen shot that shows both the mp4 file in the media library (upper right), fireworks and all, and my editing screen (to its left), black and all.

    Hmm... read http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining/2011/02/red-yellow-and-gree n-render-bars.html and know that the red line over your timeline means that your project and video do not match

     

    I do not use that kind of file, nor do I convert from youtube, so I can't really suggest a project setting

     

    Hopefully, someone who uses that type of file will read and reply with a solution

    My granddaughter was working on a 4th grade project about the Write Brothers.  She found some newsreel clips on YouTube about the first flight.  She used freeware called "YTD Downloader and Converter" to get the files.  Since the project was to be presented in PowerPoint she assumed WMV (Windows Media Video) would flow smoothly and the converter did that.  She used PRE10 to fix up the video and adjust the audio a little.  Then it was Shared>Computer>Windows Media and put the resulting files in Power Point.  Maybe that route will work for you.

     

    As I recall, she guessed on the project preset and, when she loaded the first clip, PRE10 scolded her and recommended something else that she accepted. 

     

    I helped her a little, but retired before I ever had to create a Power Point, so she had to do that all by herself.   4th graders are better equipped now than the ones I knew at my grade school. 

     

    She got an "A".

    Unfortunately, I cannot help. I have had to use a few YouTube FLV's, but just used Premire Pro FLV Importer from Moyea, to Import those. They came in and edited fine, with the anticipated degradation in quality. However, I do not believe that Moyea ever did a PrElements version of that utility, however. Still, it might be worth a look?

     

    I do find that conversion to AVCHD and then to that Frame Size and FPS to be odd. Not familiar with that software, but would hope that it provides other options, as those specs. are not likely to work well in PrE, as it does not allow for a Custom Project Preset, like PrPro does. I've been begging for that feature for years.

     

    Wish that I had more to offer.

    As you know from another forum, the problem may have nothing to do with the video files as old PrE10 projects will no longer play video (audio only). Hope to be talking to the company that assembled my computer, which has been helpful with other (audio) driver problems in the past.

    Adobe Premiere Elements Tech Support in India is working on this problem. They acknowledge that even with the updated display driver, PrE 10 is still not displaying video, even with old projects. They did indicate that the problem may be unique to XP, which environment, they say, represents a very small fraction of PrE10 use. In the meantime, I am still dead in the water. Fortunately, my current project does not have a hard deadline.

    Unbelievable!

     

    A number of people told me that all I had to do was delete the file (BadDrivers.txt) that generates the error message, and the problem would go away. In PrE 10, the file "badDrivers.txt" is in "Documents and Settings". And I can't understand why deleting this file (or renaming it, as I did, in case I had to restore it, but $%^&$%^&%^ it worked! I apologize to all who suggested this (and who I assumed to be nuts). Unfortunately I can't find the Adobe support email message so that I can tell Kumar (that's the name he gave me) about this.
